Charsi Karhai - Peshawari taste at home

Whenever I’m free, I always want to cook something and try new recipes and it always makes me happy trying new dishes. This week I decided to cook something less spicy, high in protein and good for the health. We are celebrating Ramazan with full zest around the world and cooking our most favorite and famous dishes like “PAKORAS” is a must-have in the Iftar time. Along with these crispy PAKORAS, we love to have "FRUIT CHAAT " mixed with cream, sometimes topped with caramel source, and of course “DATES”. But we need to consume protein as well to give our bodies the required energy.

To satisfy my taste buds and fulfill the body requirements, I tried this very simple and famous dish "Charsi karhai :shallow_pan_of_food: ". The origin of this dish is northern areas of Pakistan like Naran, Kaghan, and Kashmir, and now it is famous all around the world especially where Afghanis and Pershawris live. So you can try it at home and on the sides, enjoy it with different types of Naan such as Roghni naan, kalwanji naan or simple roti.
Let’s start off with the procedure and enjoy this delicious dish :stew:

INGREDIENTS:-

  1. Half Chicken (with bone)
  2. Green chili (7 pieces half cut)
  3. Garlic paste (1tbsp)
  4. Ginger paste (1tbsp)
  5. Oil (¾ cup)
  6. Tomatoes (4 to 5 half cut)
  7. Salt (as per taste)
  8. Black pepper powder ( 1tbsp)
  9. Ginger chopped ( for garnishing)
  10. Fresh coriander ( for garnishing)

PROCEDURE:-

Take oil into a Karhai ( a sort of deep pan ), and add a 1tsp of salt it. Now, add chicken pieces in it and fry it at high flame until it is turned light brown.

Once it turns brown, drain out extra oil from the karhai and add tomatoes which are cut into half. Take garlic and ginger paste into a bowl and add some water in it.

Now add this mixture into the karhai, cover the karhai with the top lid, and cook the chicken at a very low flame for almost 15 minutes. The purpose is to cook the chicken in the steam and boil the tomatoes at the same time.

After 15 minutes, remove the lid or cover, you will see that tomatoes are boiled. So now, you can easily remove the skin of the tomatoes with the help of Tong and mash all the tomatoes in the Karhai with the help of a spoon.

Add green chili and black pepper as per taste and mix it in the karhai. Cook for a few minutes and finally it is ready. You can add chopped ginger and coriander leaves for the garnishing purpose.

I am sure you will definitely like it and hope to get your feedback.

@TravellerG thank you for your kind words Sir. To be honest, I would always opt for vegetable over chicken. Because vegetables have more nutrition than chicken. :slightly_smiling_face:
