Hyderabad which is also known as the city of queens is one of my favorite cities. I love the local traditions and culture. Iam very much fond of the food culture here and especially the Biryani. Monuments and museums are the center of tourism. Char Minar is the pride and identity of Hyderabad.
The Char Minar, which is the ideality of Hyderabad, is one of the majestic buildings built by the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, who is also the founder of the city. The building is square in shape with arches at a specified intervals. It has 4 minarets, 3 floors in each, which is about three meters high. There are spiral stairs inside the minarets to reach the top. There are 139 steps with 12 middle terraces or landings. The double-walled arches are supporting the roof and the decoration of the arches on the minarets add to the aesthetic beauty.
A notable feature of the Charminar is the location of a mosque on the southern side of the second minaret, which may be one of the most beautiful mosques of the time. With an open part at the front.
Forty-five persons can pray at a time. And the building is also known for its magnificent lining of luxurious grillage and windows, with a variety of delicate floral arrangements performed by local artists, a superb combination of Mughal and Hindu architecture. There are many legends as to why the Charminar was built, but it is generally accepted that the four minarets were built in the middle of the city to commemorate the end of the plague. In the middle of the eighteenth century, the French ruler (Bussy) made Char Minar his Headquarters. Later in 1889, clocks were added in four directions. In the lower part of the four minarets, in the middle, there was actually an ablution place with a small fountain so that the usual formal rituals could be performed before the prayers in the mosque.
I had two visits in 2016 and 2017 these pictures were captured during those visits. Biryani I had at the famous Restaurant Paradise. Mosque which is located in Southern minaret couldn’t visit as it was under maintenance. Views of the surrounding markets High Court, Mecca Masjid etc are spectacular from the top floor. Entry fee is affordable and much information about the history is available at the site in Urdu language. Of course steps are little higher and remain tiresome to access the top floor. Finally whole tiredness converts in relief as the architecture and magnificent views leave spellbound. It’s a major attraction among the history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers
