Challenge: Show Your Google Review Tags 🗺️

Hey Local Guides!

Are you like me and you love looking at your most recent reviews and contributions and then that amazing emoji-filled assortment of tags shows up at the top?

Google Local Guides :memo: Review Tags

When you click your profile on Google Maps and hit “View All” under your reviews, Google does a great job highlighting your favorite :cityscape: cities, business :barber_pole::fuel_pump::church: categories, and :sandwich::hot_beverage:food your review. Let me share my top tags:

As you can see, I do have my weaknesses.

  • Cities :cityscape:: Number one begins with a city and 2 more appear as well. Winston Salem (where I live), Clemmons (where my house is), Greensboro (where Iwork)
  • Restaurants :sandwich::hamburger::french_fries:: Next up are restaurant categories that I frequent most makes sense with 3 boys under 10 that fast food is there and fries and sandwiches are everywhere!
  • Food Categories :hot_beverage::cookie::beer_mug::shaved_ice:: Lastly are good categories and items you can get when you done out. As you can see, coffee is in its rightful place as I plan every trip and vacation around my next coffee fix.

Where This Tags Come From & Can They Change

These tags are great because they are fun to point to with new And seasoned Local Guides to share what your passions and likes are. Google based these tags on the business categories and shared words used on your reviews and business descriptions and content in the POI you frequent. These tags can also change over time.

When my kids were younger, I absolutely had the :national_park: park tag as we visited many free parks and playgrounds. If you aren’t happy with your tags or your passion change, go out and write reviews and add contributions to new categories of business and places and watch your tags change too!

What are your top tags on Google Maps?? Share yours :backhand_index_pointing_down: below

@JordanBurleson I loved the information.
I love communicating with emotions, and especially highlighting the main points of the post through them.

My partner is a tea drinker while I love my cup of coffee :hot_beverage:

I do a lot of recycling :recycling_symbol: but haven’t received an emoji for that. I think it would be nice if it could be added.

What about an emoji for vegetarian?

Seems my old life of reviewing beer and burgers has yet to be overtaken by my current existence at Parks and Ice Cream Shops. To be fair, I’ve been an LG twice as long as I’ve had kids :joy:

@JustJake I like to see beer in its rightful place though!

Picnic and fortification are new for me @Ssiddharth2000. Love seeing how different countries, interests, and businesses change these for Local Guides

Thank you so much for this challenge @JordanBurleson !

Thats funny because I’ve shared the same in French 17 days ago. If you want to see Others answer dont hesitate to go there

Your profil is crazy and very inspiring because your 3 cities are very close from where you live or work and for me thats very important to have many reviews as local.

Here mine :

Three cities in Switzerland :switzerland:
Lausanne 253 reviews
Vevey 117 reviews
Geneva 41 reviews

I lived in Lausanne until I was 29 and have now been living in Vevey for five years.

When I travel to a city, I look at reviews and follow local guides who have a lot of reviews in that city with the tag on the profile

Very interesting challenge @JordanBurleson I like it.
Looks like I eat a lot of food, my waistline would agree with that. My Beer tag used to be higher up. I used to go on a photo walk and then head to whatever local pub or bar was here, have a couple of cold ones and edit my photos. Proud to say I have not had a drink in over 18 months. Now it’s strictly coffee, it’s also much cheaper.
Again different but great challenge.

I’m so sorry I missed your challenge @christophesubilia! I’ll head over to yours now!

@TerryPG I’m sure in a few years my :beer_mug: beer tags will be replaced by :hot_beverage: coffee and :teacup_without_handle: tea!

@Do_Quang_Chi these tags/cards are not random but correlate with the places you write reviews for. If you want to change them and get a tag for tea, write reviews for tea shops and cafes!

I have a similar approach to everyone else, focusing on local support in my city of Pune, mainly food. :grinning:
