Challenge: Show us your most helpful recent photo on Google Maps

If we had to describe Local Guides with one word, it would be ‘helpful.’ Your honest reviews and great photos include valuable details, and your lists are the best recommendations on where to eat, what to see, and who to support locally. You check the facts and clean the map, and so much more!

That’s why we’re sure our new challenge will be as easy as snapping a photo with your phone. And that’s what we ask: What is the most helpful photo you recently shared on Google Maps?

To give you some inspiration, here are a few examples from us:

@Bobiisha : I recently added the photo above to a bar called The Steps on Google Maps. I loved the rainbow flag hanging on a column on the first floor, showing that the place is LGBTQ±friendly. My photo is helpful because you can see that while the bar isn’t accessible, there is enough space for big groups of visitors or several smaller ones. And I also made sure to add a caption to this photo and the other ones I shared with my review!

@TraciC : Two weeks ago, I went on a vacation of sorts: from Brooklyn, New York, I drove the huge (haha!) distance of 35 miles or 56 kilometers to Park Ridge, New Jersey. My cousins and I packed up my car for a weekend at the Marriott Park Ridge. Our requirements were basic: comfortable beds, an indoor and outdoor pool, and a great gym. Why a gym, you ask? Because I’ve been doing a one mile a day challenge, and I didn’t want to miss out! So, my most helpful photo uploaded recently was of the hotel gym, where it shows you the kind of treadmills (LifeFitness) and the spacing they offer due to COVID-19 regulations. I hope this photo helps people looking to get their workout on while away from home.

@DeniGu : Last month, I visited the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis and was stunned by how accessible and interactive the place was. The photo I shared on Maps shows part of the walking platforms that are wide enough for wheelchair users and parents with strollers (I saw some on my visit, too!). Plus, you can see the spiral walkway leading to the second floor in the background. People wear overshoes which they receive at the door, but visitors can bring their own, too. And the photo also gives you a glimpse of the beautiful mosaics on display!

What is the most helpful photo you recently added on Google Maps? Show us in the comments below, share a link to it on Maps, and don’t forget to tell us why you think it’s helpful. We will highlight some of the best entries on Connect!

Great post @Bobiisha

On these days I am traveling around and visiting natural areas, to discover more places to add to the Accessible Life Project

One of my most recent photo, that I want to share with you and the community, is related to the Panoramic Point in Porto Caleri, a wetland at the mouth of the River Po. The place is amazing, easy to reach for a full immersion in the nature of the area. Here is my review

To make easy to visually understand the beauty of the place, and that it is really fully accessible, I wanted to create the blu line of the path too

This will make easy for everyone, especially for people with limited mobility (e.g. a family with small kids, or a person in a wheelchair) to “see” the place before to decide for a visit

I’ll put a slightly different spin on my answer… I added a place that wasn’t on Maps and included a selection of photos showing the kinds of things you could expect to buy there, none of the photos stand out artistically or are of impressive places but they all support the local small business that I added.

You can find the place at https://goo.gl/maps/11tmMgnahLtQ6Wiv7

Wonderful photos @Bobiisha .

Last week I visited the Jantar Mantar monuments in Delhi that are related to astronomy and are spread over a huge area. This was part of the Accessibility for All initiative.

The facilities for navigation like ramps and well-paved walkways at this place are noteworthy.

A remarkable feature that was tucked away in a corner was the tactile maps and diagrams of the monuments engraved on a metal plate. The facilitates the blind who can touch-sense and get an idea of the real object.

Here is the real object that is accessible and can be navigated from very close.

Besides that, there is also a large information metal board embossed in Braille with the description of the monument.

I saw that such facilities are very helpful for both the blind and the visually impaired besides those with limited mobility.

After months of cancelled trips and postponed gatherings, my wife and I went on a vacation to explore more of the area beyond the San Francisco Bay Area. Just an hour and a half outside the San Francisco city limits, we drove to Guerneville, a small community in the heart of wine country. We booked a small escape at a “glamourous” campground called AutoCamp- we love nature, but we also wanted to fully relax after months of being at home, so we went glamping! Here’s a shot of the different options that you can book for lodging-a luxury trailer converted into a camper and the rows of airstreams. But what we appreciated the most and wanted to share is the amazing aesthetics of the area as well as how spacious, ADA compliant, and inviting each camper is, with their own lounging fire pit areas.

I visited Mercado Norte, it is a place that reunites 16 small businesses (restaurants), you can find food from different parts of the world. I added a photo of the restroom entrance, showing that they have a ramp and in the background you can see the “Tree of Life”, a clay sculpture which Metepec is known for. It’s a tree of life made of various trees of life: Tree of Life-ception. :joy:

Mercado Norte is located in Town Square Metepec, which is the newest mall where I live in, I like to visit it because almost all the stores have accesible entrance except 5 stores, and it’s pet friendly!

Absolutely love the way you have captured the photo since I too strive to get the best possible shots of useful places especially those that highlight accessibility features.

Also, the Tree of Live is amazing

Thanks @TusharSuradkar I always try to capture accessible features in the place and try to make my best.

@Bobiisha Thanks for starting this new challenge.

My recent photo is of our neighborhood, Hope Services Donation Truck, which is located in a shopping center. Even though I have used this place for donations, till last week, I didn’t realize it was not on Google Maps. I added the donation truck to the map and picture and a video too. Of course left a review!

These days I am chasing food trucks and adding content on connect about them. Here is another type of truck, with donations they help people in need. This is the reason I thought it is a helpful add to the maps

Here is the link to the donation truck on Google Maps.

A very interesting and timely post @Bobiisha . I only today added the photo below on Google Maps and wrote a Connect post about this for the reasons mentioned in my post but basically, I believe my photo is helpful because of the following:

  1. This store is horribly difficult to find as it’s at a somewhat unusual/almost hidden basement of the historical Coop’s Shot Tower now encapsulated because of its historical significance within the modern Melbourne Central, a very large and one of the busiest shopping complexes in Melbourne CBD
  2. Being within the historical Coop’s Shot Tower, the store is within a historical brick building whereas all other stores in the shopping mall are typical modern fitted-out stores with modern storefronts
  3. The store has very little storefront signage; basically a sign with the three-letter logo dji. This might be intentional or might relate to the signage restrictions placed on the historical Coop’s Shot Tower building
  4. The 1170 reviews and photos before mine focused on the products on the store’s shelves and gave very little clue as to where the store is located.

Here is my review and I’m still trying to add captions to the photos but I’m pleased that the photo shown here has already become the feature photo on Maps for this business perhaps for the reasons I’ve mentioned.

Happy Anniversary

Hi @Bobiisha Thank you so much for inviting me to take part in this great challenge and I am so glad to take part in this challenge.

I make a contribution an hour before your post it really seemed very important and helpful for everybody.

This morning I went to [বেবিলন মেডিকেল সার্ভিসেস ](http://বেবিলন মেডিকেল সার্ভিসেস 01787-695848 https://maps.app.goo.gl/iyFcrZjTQunyt6146)for my special required. when I entered the medical I saw a chart, there are specialist doctors on different diseases and their names and patients viewing time. I think it is a very good option to select doctor according to the need. Then I was able to capture a photo of the chart and uploaded on Google Meps to this goal of other people benefit.

Hello @Bobiisha

Thank you for this very constructive and helpful challenge. 3 weeks ago it was, I went on a visit in town(the heart of Lagos) and decided to see this Cathedral. I have always seen it,but this day I was prompted to take a close shot and write a review of my visit to the place. Just like I wrote in my [Review](http://Check out this review of Cathedral house on Google Maps Google Maps) , the architectural work is quite dazzling. The serene and religious atmosphere is quite appealing as well. The building is over 100 years old and I know one of the founding fathers of the church. I had hoped to write a post about it on connect, but haven’t enough information so I decided against it.

The picture is helpful because, I realised that there is no clear picture of this **[Cathedral House ](http://Cathedral house 0803 415 2236 https://maps.app.goo.gl/L11igSoy4kZi7YQ37)**on the map. Therefore mine was the first. It’s a beauty to behold and appreciate. The picture might also help any tourist who wants a place to visit.

Great Challenge @Bobiisha

I recently added a picture ( between others) of a beautiful restaurant besides de Paraná River.

I tried to show the option of the outdoor places to have a great time,

:green_circle:respecting the social distance between tables

:green_circle:each table with it sanitizer

:green_circle: fresh air near the river.

The purpose is to encourage the people to visit the business , and show the option to be safe and have a seat outside.

The Covid-19 is still is here in my city and we are in a partial lockdown. The situation of the small businesses is delicate.

I’m very happy cause the pic is featured in the cover of the POI in G Maps.

Review with pic.

Seats and table outside the restaurant, every one with it own sanitizer and respecting the social distance. The gorgeous Paraná River behind.

Have a nice day!

Wow… this is another amazing post @Bobiisha ! Even though we are not much traveling these days, I recently visited a small local cafe called School House Cafe, London and what surpirised me was that they also host free Employment skills classes for young people with Autism ! So I took the photo and I was surprised to see 800+ views on the same within a short period of time ! Later , when I met the owner, she thanked me because many people who came there for registration came to know via Maps regarding learning new employment skills ! This made me really happy that I was able to help someone who was in need of a job to learn new employment skills and trying to be independent financially !

Although my other recent photos might have got more views than this one but this photo made me realise that a single contribution no matter how small it looks can change the course of someone’s life :slightly_smiling_face:

Here is the photo I uploaded on Maps :

Thanks for sharing @Bobiisha

I recently visited the marvelous Padua, a city in Veneto (Northern Italy) known among other things for the frescoes by Giotto in the Scrovegni Chapel, from 1303-05, and for the large 13th century Basilica of Sant’Antonio.
Having done the military in Padua I like to return from time to time and like millions of tourists I walked along Via Roma, (since I went to Padua I have traveled it without exaggerating a thousand times) but this time fate had a wonderful surprise in store for me .
I was admiring the altar of the church from the outside Church of Santa Maria dei Servi and I was wondering if it was worth it to enter that umpteenth church, when I was approached by a kind old woman who told me that inside there was a masterpiece by Donatello almost entirely hidden unknown.
Upon entering, I found myself in the presence of this magnificent Crucified Christ made by Donatello on 1443-1445 who had fallen into oblivion and was incredibly rediscovered, so I added a place that wasn’t on Maps and included a selection of photos and wrote the full story here:

Hi @Bobiisha ,

great challenge, helpful: the perfect word for the Local Guides attitude!

One of my most recent helpful photo I think is The Roof hotel restaurant I’ve stayed in Milan.

Why it is helpful? Because it gives the full experience of this restaurant: unique and breathtaking open view on the city center, space and relax, cozy and elegant atmosphere and Covid safe place with such enough distance between each table. A nice place to spend the evening with just a couple of bar drinks or enjoying a full romantic dinner with a nice glass of wine  .
