Challenge Accepted for Google Maps List.

Hello Everyone,

I Hope Everyone is doing good,

I have recently attended my virtual meetup about Google Maps List. @Kwiksatik and @KarenVChin were the host, their presentation cleared all of my doubts about Google Maps List and I must say they have unique maps list. At end of the meetup we have been given a task to accomplish to get featured on Recap, I felt it’s time to get started to work on my maps list with all intakes which I have got from them.

Here is the challenge Link

I am avid reader, The year of 2020 gave us plenty of time and staying home is new normal. In this pandemic time the most important thing I felt is being mentally strong and embracing the situation. I know many of you have used this time to get started with something innovative or may found out some new habits.

This quarantine days made me read 5 books so far, that adds up to my book list of 40 . I love reading books, every book has it’s own favor, I always try to understand life to the greater extend and that only happens through books I believe. Reading is a way to escape your own life, and can take you to faraway lands, other times, and put you in other people’s shoes and that can change our perspective and keeps our brain healthy.

Let me share the 5 books which I read during this Quarantine days.

1. Eat That Frog By Brain Tracy.

2. The Power of Habit (Why We Do What We Do In Life And Business) by charles Duhigg.

3. Mastery by Robert Greene

4. The Dairy of Young Girl by Anne Frank

5. Spiens - A Brief History Of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari.

**My current reading is The Magic Of Thinking Big by David Schwartz (Second time).

I have read most of the books on Kindle, considering the current situations, But I do have some of my favorite book stores. which I used to visit before the pandemic. So I created the L****ist for Bookworm.

Once things are normal, this list will definitely helps them to decide, which book store they should visit according to their area.

Here is the List on Maps.

This is just wild! I am also reading The Magic of Thinking Big right now! I really appreciate how your list is spread out across a good area - being a bookworm myself, I know the value of having a shop nearby. So many people prefer e-books today, but nothing replaces the tactile sensation of having a good book in your hands, or the smell that comes from between the pages of books of all ages. Your personalized notes about why the locations are your preferred create a nice “welcome” before one would visit each shop. Thank you so much for sharing!

This is awesome, @Arati ! I enjoyed reading your list of bookstores.

Here in the States, there are fewer bookstores due to Amazon to be blunt.

My best tip for Americans is to visit their local public libraries. They have all the new releases (books, music, movies) in both “physical” and “digital” forms. Public libraries (pre-coronavirus) have been places where the community gathers within its walls: education, kids activities, book readings, seasonal events, etc.

For me, I love the smell of books. The mustier, the better. I don’t read from a device. As @Kwiksatik stated, I am a tactile person when it comes to reading books. I love flipping pages, the feel of the paper. I don’t have the patience to read from an electronic device.

The Diary of Anne Frank is an excellent book. I read Anne’s story in middle school.

I have not read as many books as you have during quarantine or the full year. Before coronavirus, I read Kevin Kwan’s trilogy of Crazy Rich Asians;

  1. Crazy Rich Asians (bought it used from Friends of the Library Bookstore)
  2. China Rich Girlfriend (checked it out from my local library)
  3. Rich People Problems (checked it out from my local library)

Right before the shutdown, I checked out How to Raise Successful People: Simple Lessons for Radical Results and more than halfway reading it.

The author, Esther Wojcicki, is:

The Godmother of Silicon Valley, legendary teacher, and mother of a Super Family shares her tried-and-tested methods for raising happy, healthy, successful children using Trust, Respect, Independence, Collaboration, and Kindness: TRICK.

Esther Wojcicki—“Woj” to her many friends and admirers—is famous for three things: teaching a high school class that has changed the lives of thousands of kids, inspiring Silicon Valley legends like Steve Jobs, and raising three daughters who have each become famously successful. What do these three accomplishments have in common? They’re the result of TRICK, Woj’s secret to raising successful people: Trust, Respect, Independence, Collaboration, and Kindness. Simple lessons, but the results are radical.

Source: Amazon

She is the mother of 3 famous daughters ( Susan (CEO of YouTube), Janet, a Fulbright-winning anthropologist, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and researcher at UCSF, and Anne (co-founder of 23andMe), and nine grandchildren. (Source: Wikipedia).

I met Esther in February as she gave a presentation about her book. She is very humble. She has taught kids who have become famous in their expertise, has worked on Google projects from the very beginning, etc.

Highly recommend reading this book for many reasons.

Cheers,

Karen

wow!!! your book list is amazing @KarenVChin :slightly_smiling_face:

Here in India we don’t get all the new releases in local public libraries, we need to check out at different places for that.

Thank you for introducing me to new author Esther wojcicki and for sharing about TRICK ( Trust, Respect, Independence, collaboration, and Kindness). it’s so fascinating for me, Esther wojcicki book is in my bucket list now.

Seems like Esther’s personal and professional life is all together successful.

That’s great you got a chance to meet her personally
