Chak De Punjab - A Lohri Food Festival at Cafe Treat

The folk festival of Lohri embodies community, abundance and the vivacious culture of the state of Punjab. Cafe Treat, The Pride Hotel Kolkata celebrating this with a unique food festival Chak De Punjab that showcases the choicest local North Indian flavours and Punjabi delicacies that are sure to make everyone sway.

I went there to enjoy their Chak De Punjab Buffet - in Lohri Food Festival. There is no better way to enjoy a lovely Friday afternoon, than by ringing in the harvest festival with amazing Lohri food and chilled drink.

Chak De Punjab Buffet Menu :

Dal Makhani

Sarson Ka Saag

Veg Lohri Specials - Sarson Ka Saag, Punjabi Rajma, Dal Makhani, Battiwali Paneer, Paneer Tikka Butter Masala, Punjabi Kadi Pakoda, Paneer Makani, Kasturi Paneer, Bhutta Da Kebab and Pind De Chole

Non Veg Lohri Specials - Kukkad De Dhabe, Amritsari Mahi Masala, Rara Gosht, Dhabewali Murgh Masala, Palak Da Murgh, Amrirsari Fish, Patiwala Murgh Tikka, Badami Murgh, Murgh Makhani and Patiwala Sahi Gosht

Kukkad De Dhabe

Like any meat lovers, I went straight for the Kukkad De Dhabe that miraculously fills me up with no ‘guilty’ aftermath, thankfully. For the more spicy daredevils they can tryout the Rara Gosht, an addictive combination that will leave you scraping the bowl.

Amritsari Mahi Masala

Next I tasted Amritsari Mahi Masala, super spicy flavourful traditional Punjabi fish curry. I paired steamed rice with Amritsari Mahi Masala and thoroughly enjoyed. Also, I enjoy the uber juicy Patiwala Murgh Tikka that’s done perfect while sporting a crisp outer layer, and balanced with marinated spices and coriander dip — the perfect partner for a Beer or two.

Dhabewali Murgh Masala

Next dish I tried Dhabewali Murgh Masala surrounded with bright and earthy flavors: garam masala, ginger, and lemon accented sauce of puréed dehydrated tomatoes. The star of the plate, though flavourful, juicy and soft chicken leg pieces; the taste was incredibly fresh and spicy.

I finally end meal with Patiwala Sahi Gosht which was soft, spicy and smoky, prepared with blend of aromatic spices and herbs, and then slow cooked in onion and tomato gravy for an umami punch. Patiwala Sahi Gosht, might require a temporary break from that diet of yours. The incredibly tender chunks of meat with a slight melt-in-your-mouth fat will leave you helpless!

@fafaguru Sarson Da Saag Aur Makki Ki Roti are the most popular vegetarian combo from the Punjabi cuisine, made from mustard greens leafs and spices such as ginger and garlic then traditionally served warm with makki di roti.
