Kajri Teej:- Badhi Teej/ Saturi Teej
Celebrating the holy union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Teej in Rajasthan is a monsoon festival for women. On the day of Kajari Teej, married women keep a fast and seek the blessings of Goddess Parvati on Teej Festival for marital bliss.
✤Festival Dates/Months✤
Every year, the festival of Teej is celebrated on Tritiya Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. (According to Hindu Calendar).
This festival is falling on 6 August this year (three days after Raksha Bandhan)
✤Locations for Celebration✤
Kajari Teej is one of the most important festivals celebrated by women who hail from the states of Rajasthan. However, Rajasthan is not the only state Teej is celebrated in, many other states in the north and west India observe this monsoon festival held in August and September. Although, it is fair to say that Teej is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the desert state of Rajasthan.
The essence of the festival remains the same everywhere, but the rituals differ from state to state.

- Swings are fixed in the branches of tree for married women
- Women decorate their hands with henna (Mehndi)
- Prayers are offered to Goddess Parvati to seek her blessings for marital bliss

- Special songs are sung and pooja(worship) is observed
It is believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati on this day, long life of husband and happiness, prosperity and fulfillment of wishes are fulfilled. so, women keep a fast, get dressed in their best finery, apply Mehendi to their palms, and celebrate this auspicious festival to pray for the well-being of their husband.
This fast is opened by looking at the moon. If the moon is not visible, then at 11.30 at night, open the fast by offering arghya to the moon.
The major attractions of Teej Festival are the swings that are fixed to the branches of large trees, on which the women take turns to enjoy swinging. Special songs are sung, and the women decorate their hands with henna. Married daughters are presented with sweets and clothes by their mothers. The girls engaged to be married receive gifts of henna, bangles, clothes, and sweets from the in-laws.
✤Special Dishes✤
On this day, a variety of dishes are made by mixing barley, wheat, sattu, gram, rice and ghee. Suhaagins worship Goddess Parvati and Mahadev on this day in a legal manner.
This fast is opened after moonrise. During this, reading fast story of Kajri Teej is considered auspicious.
✤Essential Ingredients for Puja✤
Ghee, Wheat, Lemons, Pearl beeds, Aakda leaves (calotropis), Flowers, Mehndi (HEENA), Sweets. (Main one is Besan ke laddoo, others in the platter are made of rice and wheat), Kajal, Cucumber, Sindoor, Banana, Cloth, A vessel of milk and water.
✤Puja Process✤
- The Puja is conducted at a Brahmins house
- Make a small well with the clay and plant the Neem twig in one of the corners.
- Offer raw milk and water to it in such a way that the well gets filled with the liquid.
- Then offer kumkum, mehendi, kajal and Akshat to the Neem plant followed by a red chunri.
- Apply kumkum, mehendi, kajal to all the four corner of the pooja platform.
- Then see the reflection of seven items in the well. You may choose any seven of the puja items like lemon, cucumber, Naivedhya, Sattum Oil lamp etc.
- Worship the neem flower, and then listen to the vrat Katha.
