In 2012, the UNESCO proclaimed June 1st to be celebrated as the Global day of Parent. This year is a particular year because of the pandemic. Let’s face it, without parents doing their incredible jobs, life would be so much harder for the kids! You’ve been asked the impossible. Some of you have been asked to work from home while continuing on caring for the younger ones. Some of you have been asked to homeschool your kids. You’ve been asked to keep your kids home without them being able to see their friends during the lockdown, explaining the pandemic to them and you’ve been doing great! No matter what you think, you’ve been doing the best you could during this time.
But now, two months after the lockdown, you might be out of inspiration. Here’s some idea of what I’m doing home with my kids during the quarantine, hoping it will help others as well.
Cooking
It’s something you have to do anyway. So make the most of it and include your kids to the task. Now is the time to teach them about your heirloom recipe. Every day, I’m making a new recipe with my children. From something as simple as cutting watermelons together as something more elaborate as making muffins or decorating cookies, my kids love to help me.
And you can see the final result before they eat the cookies
Making them move!
Of course, they need to move. You can either go outside to play or watch some dance videos to help them move. Every day, we’re going outside so the kids can go crazy and spend some energy. It doesn’t have to be a specific sport, it can be just playing outside. Let them play!
Let them explore the world
There’s plenty of ways to let your kids explore the world. Most of you already know it, but Google lets you visit museums around the world in the comfort of your home. You can also make a scientific experiment with them and explain how it works.
Crafting
You can do all kinds of crafts with kids. With mines, we draw every day. We use chalk, crayons, marker everything. We draw on the driveway, in the windows and on paper. We make moulds of our hands to paint and even paint rocks. Be creative with your kids, there’s no need for an elaborate crafting session!
And most importantly, relax!!
It’s important to enjoy this time with your kids. With the pandemic, I’ve really learned to enjoy this slow life feeling. Appreciate the time you have with them, make great memories with them and take the time to cuddle and relax with them. Somehow, I feel really blessed to be able to live this with them and helping them going through an extraordinary situation.
Share with me how you’re doing during this quarantine and Keep up the good work!
