Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi - The Festival of Maharashtra

Hello local Guides
Hope you all are doing good :slightly_smiling_face:

This year has changed many things and also changed the way we Celebrate our festivals

Here in Maharashtra we wait whole year for the most favourite festival of Ganesh chaturthi
A 10 day festival which is filled with joy, spirituality and Beauty
Ganesh chaturthi is one of the very important festival of Maharashtra and everyone has different rituals to Celebrate it.

it is main festival of Maharastrian Culture usually falls in the month of August / September.

the streets are decorated with lights and flowers.

The vibe of the festival can be seen everywhere and there are people who visit to different parts of Maharashtra Just for the festival.
Mumbai has most famous places to visit during the festival

People from different part of the country visit during the 10 day festival.
Every year there is some unique theme for idols and decoration.
This year We all were curious if we would be allowed to Celebrate .
Luckily with some special guidelines we are allowed to Celebrate taking care of all the necessary precautions and allowing only limited people to join in at a time.

The idol is usually worshipped for 1 and half days, 5 days, 7 days or 10/11 days
And at my home we bring idol and worship for 10 days, even before I was born my grandparents and father started bringing Ganesha idol home.
I have always been very excited for the festival and this is it’s gonna be different.

We made sure all the guidelines are followed and started preparing for the festival, we choose this beautiful idol and decorated our home.

Fresh flower garlands, coconut, mango leafs, diya, insence sticks are used for puja along with fruits and special sweets like churma laddu made using coarse wheat flour with ghee (clarified butter) and Jaggery
And they are flavoured with cardamom and modak which are made in two types one is made with Khoya (dried whole milk) and other one is made with rice flour and filled with Jaggery and coconut with cardamom.

first day and the last day we make a full meal which consist of food made without onion and garlic.

the day continues with puja, and Aarti where we worship with folk and spiritual songs

we make a Aati thali (plate) where we place a diya (lamp), Kapur (camphor), flower petals

We also make special sweet dish everyday for 10 days.

We have visitors every year this year we are celebrating it differently, Thanks to the technology we will be having virtual visitors this year.
With use of video calls and google meets we asked relatives and friends to join us for the celebration and Aarti.

On day 10 (1st September, 2020) we will immerse the idol in water as this idol is made up of clay which is eco friendly, after which the water will be used for plants and trees.

Have you ever been to Ganesh Chaturthi celebration ?

please share your views with pictures and place in comments :slightly_smiling_face:

Wishing you all my local Google friends Happy Ganesh Chaturthi .

May lord Ganesha vanished this corona virus and soon we all can meet and hug each other without any fear.

This festival is full of joy we Mumbaikars wait for the whole year for bappa to come at our house.

The roads are full of lightings children’s are playing, the street is full of chaos best part is a street food which is open whole night. You can’t just missed to eat Mumbai’s favourite VADA PAV.

This 10days flows like water and we are completely sad when he is gone.

He arrives with famous nasik band or lezim and also the same during visarjan (immersion)

This festival is celebrated all over India but now we have also seen Ganesh chaturthi is also celebrated in countries like UK, USA, UAE and many more

Due to pandemic this year everything is kept at low profile.

We have brought an eco friendly idol

Only neighbours have been invited for darshan following all norms due to covid-19.

Lord Ganesha will be staying with us for 1 and half day.

Idol Visarjan (immersion) will be done at my own place in a small pond.

!! GANPATI BAPPA MORYA!!

Congratulations for a very well-written article on this auspicious occasion @FalguniP

The photos look superb :ok_hand: I like them all :+1:

Didn’t know about Mumbai cha Raja  thanks for mentioning.

Back where I lived in the past, the Ganapati of Raja Bazar in Aurangabad was famous and also called Sansthan Ganapati.

Besides this, the Rajur cha Ganapati draws devotees from far and wide.

All the photos including Shri Ganesh ji idol, prasad, etc are great.

This is year we decided to go more eco friendly considering current pandemic scenario and Pune is worst affected. Here is the photo:

Metal idol of Ganapati at my home

We will miss the Pune Ganapati festival extravaganza this year. It’s all going digital now. Now that may be trend henceforth.
