Today, I was delighted to receive a small badge from Google Maps, reminding me of the incredible journey I’ve had with this remarkable platform. It brought back memories of the Google Mapathon event organized by Google ten years ago, which remains one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. I had the privilege of standing among the top contributors and was rewarded with a fantastic tee and a certificate. Small-small Contributions since then made me achieve great numbers last month only I achieved 100 Million views on my contributions.
Being a part of Google Maps has been immensely fulfilling, as it offers me the opportunity to contribute to a tool that has become an integral part of our daily lives. The badge and previous perks I’ve received are not just material rewards; they are symbols of recognition and encouragement from a company that values its community of map enthusiasts.
Being at Connect has been a fantastic experience, as I get the chance to learn from experienced LGs. The knowledge sharing and implementation of tried-and-tested methods have been invaluable in improving my skills and making a meaningful impact on Google Maps.
Looking ahead, I am filled with enthusiasm and determination to achieve even more in my journey with Google Maps. I aspire to contribute in even better ways, making the platform more comprehensive, accurate, and user-friendly. The sense of purpose and the joy of seeing my efforts positively impact millions of users keep me motivated each day.
Hope to make even more difference in future with my contributions. Stay tuned for more.
Se nota la emoción con sus palabras, una emoción contagiosa que me ha gustado mucho, me alegro que estés tan contento con el reconocimiento de tus aportaciones para que esto sea más grande cada día , mis más sinceras felicitaciones.
But … Mapathon?!? That sounds awesome. 2013 was pre-Local Guide era, so what programs were available for you to get involved and invited to an event like that?
@JustJake That was the time when there was no photo and video thing and I don’t remember even if reviews existed or not , but they were definitely not common then here in India. Lots of the POI in India people add photos to, today, were created then during Mapathon. There was no special event that one get invited to (physically ) but it was just a sign up process that would tarck your contributions and in the end according to the ranks participants were given rewards. Top 10 kinda got pixel phones then upto 100th rank there were some money or goodies i don’t remember exact and from 200 to 1000 there were tees and certificates. Response was overwhelming, so overwhelming that everything was delayed by months, response was so massive.
@JustJake definitely i guess that paved the road for many things. Map editor was done away with too. New things were introduced. I don’t know if that was just for India or launched elsewhere too.
@AdamGT you asked for tee and certificate story so here it is
Missed my delivery of Google PIN it was due in April but finally it’s here so clubbed everything btw I was to post this in 2022 but later on I thought why not post it as a decade of celebrations.
