Mapping the world was just the beginning. Guided by feedback from all of you, our incredible Local Guides community, we’ve pushed the limits of what a map can do. You have been such an important part of this journey, so we’re excited to celebrate this occasion with you.
To kick things off, we’ve updated the Google Maps app to provide easier access to everything you need. The app now features five main tabs: Explore, Commute, Saved, Contribute, and Updates.
While we hope you’ll enjoy using all of the tabs, there is one new tab that will be especially useful for you as Local Guides. The new Contribute tab allows you to easily share local knowledge, such as details about roads and addresses, missing places, business reviews, and photos. Now, it will be even easier for you to do what you do best and submit the contributions that help others decide where to go.
We’re updating how the Google Maps icon looks, too. Starting today, you can download the latest version of the app to see this icon on your phone:

Before Google Maps, we had to use other sites and gasp, print them! It also was incredibly hard to make good decisions. I’ve been using Google Maps non-stop for at least ten years and contributing content at the same time. I’m excited to celebrate this milestone and the incredible uses for Maps!

I don’t really remember life before Google Maps as I didn’t use any sort of map 15 years ago, but getting to know its functions and using it more and more over the years was life changing for sure. My sense of direction is pretty bad so I’m really really thankful for having Google Maps!
15 years ago I should stop several times and ask as much as I can to ensure that the direction that I take is getting closer to the place that I want to go for the first time.
Now Google.Maps saving my times and find choices for transportation mode that I wany to use.

4 years ago, I wasn’t even using Google Maps… now, I use it daily and I could never travel outside of my area without Google Maps, especially overseas. It began as a tool for me to navigate, and I have used it for searching… nowadays, it’s so much more… it’s a platform for me to discover and share new experiences. I started using at gmaps at the age of 10 and used to wonder who is mapping all my near places and how it can be so precise.
Thanks to the brains behind this amazing app and developing the curiosity in many people and being inspiration to lots of local guide to make day to day life easier.
