Cathedral of the Month - Maria Assumpta

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I am very infatuated by the construction and design of buildings, specifically villas and Cathedrals! A Cathedral is a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church which serves as the principal Church of a Diocese and where the Bishop is officially associated.

The Maria Assumpta Cathedral is very meaningful to me, because the Church is located in the my city - Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. Owerri is located in Southeast Nigeria and is said to be the heart of the Southeastern region. I have attended Mass in this Cathedral several times and constantly drive by, but I have not stopped to admire its beauty until yesterday.

What do you see in this picture? Which part captures your immediate attention?

I played around with the filters, but I believe seeing pictures in black and white offers a different perspective. What do you think?

Thanks for sharing your photos. I must say that I like the coloured photo more because I was able to notice the beautiful stain glass windows. After that I saw the different pictures above them - do you know their meaning? On the second photo, the first thing that I noticed were the arches on the ceiling. Totally different perspective.

I am waiting for your post about the Nigerian villas.

@MoniDi Yes, the stain glass windows are beautiful! The images are various signs and symbols of the Catholic Church. For example, the peacock (which is read in this image) symbolizes eternal life.

Haha okay. Hopefully I’ll be travelling a to different areas over the holiday.
