The team in charge of coming up with new categories for places in Google Maps is keeping us busy again - since the last overview 17 new ones have been added (and 3 removed). A complete overview of all post about added categories can be found here.
And there is excellent news for all the boat owners amongst the local guides! One of the new categories is Boat cleaning service, so pretty soon you will not have to do that annoying chore yourself anymore For a somewhat broader audience in search of cleaning services, there is also Tile cleaning service. Perhaps those service will be needed if your tiles have gotten dirty from the paws of some cats you decided to take home from the local Cat cafe, another brand new Maps category.
Some of the new categories can definitely be labeled as âspecial interestâ (well, all âmainstreamâ categories have already been there for ages, right?), e.g. Judaica store, Grow shop, or Lesbian bar. Other ones seems to be quite generic - and hence a risk of being applied inappropriately - (Special educator, Proefessional association) or are downright unclear to me what exactly they should be used for (Botanica, Protected area). As always: feel free to add your input in the comments if you can tell more about these last two.

Yesterday I was thinking that it is now the time to have another Category News post! Every new category motivates and reminds me that I can do more.
These new ones are also great. We have some Cat Cafes in Iran and now we can select the best category for them. The Protected Area is also very necessary; we had this before and Iâm happy to see it is back.
Copywriting service, Electric bicycle store, Professional association and Waste transfer station are very useful. And âGrow Shopâ I was long waiting for such a category because âagricultural serviceâ wasnât the best choice for such a store.
And fortunately, this time, the removed categories arenât much-needed ones.
I checked the maps in Ukrainian just now and saw at least several from the list. Cat cafe and hearing assistance can be easily used in Ukraine. Growshop can hardly be used. Anyway, Iâll need to compare English and Ukrainian versions while I forgot the website you recommended for that
You can enjoy drinks there @Annaelisa and there are cats (usually stray cats). And if there is a cat there that you like so much that you would like to take it home, you can adopt it.
Why, exactly, do we need a place category for Tile Cleaning Service? Wouldnât this be someone who travels to your tile? I have never removed my tile and brought it somewhere to be cleaned. It seems like another service category that will end up cluttering the map with POIs in neighborhoods where the service provider lives/registers their business.

Seriously: that category is indeed meant for businesses that want to use it on their Google Business Profile, offering the service of coming to your place and cleaning the tiles there.
