Catching Sunset at Kelagian Besar Island, Lampung
Hi everyone,
Wishing you all a great day wherever you are.
The end of the year is coming and I sincerely hope you are all in stellar condition. I know 2020 is super special thanks to all the changes and adjustments we all need to make due to COVID -19. Stay strong and have faith! This too shall pass!
Anyway, I would like to share some more stories about I was traveling to Lampung, my beloved homeland, together with my family some weekends ago. We had some urgent matters to handle and Alhamdulillah things were under control. We even managed to visit the ocean and the islands we love so much. This time, we visited Kelagian Besar Island, Lampung.
Kelagian Island is one of the famous islands you can definitely enjoy in Lampung. Famous for its white sandy beach, lovely underwater world including the clown fish or nemo paradise, and turquoise water, Kelagian Island is boasting with those enjoying a day on the beach, riding some thrilling water sports like jet skis, banana boats and the likes, or snorkeling around the island. It is also famous for its amazing sunset!
It takes around 40 minutes ride using the regular boat from Ketapang port to reach this area. If you take the fast boat, it will only take 20 minutes from Ketapang. As I have shared in previous posts, the boat rent cost around 500K – 600K Rupiah or USD 40 for the half-day trip. There is no entrance ticket to the island but we pay a parking ticket of 25K Rupiah or USD 2 per boat. The banana boat cost us 30K Rupiah or USD 2.5 per person. Manageable, right?
Since the plan was to catch the sunset, we left the house at noon. We drove to Ketapang port, the closest port where you can reach numbers of islands dotting the Lampung Bay. We bought our lunch, cold drinks and snacks for this trip and we brought our snorkeling gears as well. I have already called my regular boat man who had waited for us at the port.
Once we arrived, we took all the items we needed to the boat and started the journey. First, we stopped at the snorkeling spot. They call it Taman Nemo Kelagian we did spend quite some times here before we headed back to the beach. I was happy the water was relatively clean and clear although we saw some groups doing snorkeling too. But I had to admit that we saw less fish that we thought we would. When I asked our boat man he said that fish would be abundant when less people were around. Well, I couldn’t blame the fish in that case!
For sure, it was a fun day to be out there! Under the clear blue sky and saying hi to the fish!
I can never get enough of it!
Done with snorkeling, we headed to the beach to have our late lunch and enjoyed some fun water sports. Well, if you call banana boat a water sport! My kids went ecstatic and screamed on top of their as they rode the banana boat and I had fun videotaping them from the fast boat tagging them along. It was hilarious.

Then as the sunset was approaching, we packed up and moved to the other side to the island. And voila… we just stood still in the water, embraced one another and felt so fortunate to witness the magnificent moment God created in this world.
Aren’t we all blessed!
So please… we can always enjoy this incredible moment as long as we love and preserve mother nature. Simple thing such as picking up and bringing your trash back instead of throwing them to the ocean or leaving them on the beach will be a huge help. Bringing your bento boxes and tumblers instead of using Styrofoam and plastic bottles are great ideas as well. Do you think you can do that? Oh yes you can!
Stay awesome!
