I have been trying to add a phone number to a location. I am always getting the message “Not accepted.” Can someone help me find out how to solve this issue?

@johnkoshy does the place have a website and is the phone number mentioned there? Or is possibly another phone number registered somewhere for that business? The automatic checking process consults other external sources and if it finds info contradicting your contribution this will result in the dreade “Not accepted”.

@JanVanHaver It is a fresh chicken shop and the phone number currently showing is incorrect. I went to the shop asked for the new number and tried to add it to google maps. I am getting the error always “Not accepted”. The shop owner does not have a website

Please share the Maps link to the place and the correct phone number. Kindly also share something documenting the new number is correct. A screenshot from an online phone directory will be good.

In that case the shop owner could claim the business and then change it as business owner. He could then also create a website with a few extra clicks, as part of the Google Business Profile program.

@JanVanHaver That means if he changed to business owner then from now onwards he is the only person who can change the phone number right? He does not created any website for his shop. It is a small chicken selling shop.

I looked at the place on satellite view and noticed that the pin is not located near any water. I guess you added the place, correct?
Please know that the account who added a place have very few subsequent edits, so adding all relevant info at once can be a better strategy.
Adding the phone number went pending.
The category Water park is normally used for huge places with water slides and a number of swimming pools. The category Boat rental might fit better.

Yes, adding the phone number and the website while creating new places will help Google Maps verify the existence of the place.

@MortenCopenhagen what does that mean. I believe any one can create a location if it is not present there. If someone was there as the real owner of the place then he can claim it. What is the difference between a normal person creating a location and then after creating the new place some other claimed that location. Can a person who claimed the location can change the phone number and category as their wish?
I would suggest not adding places until you have the needed info or let the owners add their business.
