Cant add Hisoric Military locations

Hi All. This is my first post so be gentle:-) I have been working away doing Reviews (300+), Edits (100+), Photos (2,000 with 350K views so far) and a few videos (100 with 4,00 views so far) since starting Mapping 3 months ago. Whilst this has been straightforward, adding places is not so easy it seems as I am only on 17.

One of my interests is Military history and I have tried several times to add Historic WW2 sites. These sites are not current/classified/operational and are mentioned on Government websites, so shouldn’t be restricted by a Google rule. As they are in Scotland they are on Scottish Government websites e.g. Historic Scotland. Some by there very nature are on un-named roads, and are not numbered on UK Ordnance Survey Maps (UK Official Mapping). By way of example if you search for Cramond Beach, XPJ2+6J Edinburgh immediately to the north stretching into the sea and to Cramond Island is a WW2 anti shipping barrier. Its detailed on both of these government websites (The 2nd link also has photographs).

https://canmore.org.uk/site/113097/edinburgh-cramond-island-anti-shipping-barrier

https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/record/hes/113097/edinburgh-cramond-island-anti-shipping-barrier/rcahms

So if anyone can categorically tell me where I am going wrong that would be great, as some of the sites are very remote and I don’t want to travel for hours, get details and then have an Auto “Not Applied” as has already happened several times. For example I can only get to Cramond Islands, WW2 military fortifications when the tide is out.

Thanks in advance, Andy

Hi @Andy-Stewart these places are mappable, in the correct category, but adding a place actually requires an address.

You can try to add it using the area/region/municipality in the address code.

Did you tried?

Hi @Andy-Stewart

what’s wrong in here?

according to your post it seems you have more than one account.

With this numbers: Reviews (300+), Edits (100+), Photos (2,000 with 350K views so far) and a few videos (100) you cannot be a L2

If so, please close this account. According to the program rules, you can only have one Local guide account

Thank you

Hi . So I see my number now reflects my Google Map level. I can only take it the systems took some time to align. Having spent over 40 years in just about every IT roll I get why this might be the case. I also pointed out that this was my first post (inferring first use of Local Guides). I can also see you have many accolades, but you wont now or ever get one from me and you did not help me with my problem. You are too quick to judge and to accuse. I have also noted I can create a block list so you’ll be my first addition. I don’t have time or the patience to deal with this type of behaviour on a social app/forum and certainly not from a Moderator.

Andy

Hi @Andy-Stewart please, forgive @ErmesT , it’s really a great guy and Connect Moderator. He is involved in mapping WWI locations, so it’s doing something complementary to your work.

Connect is full of spam and users that try to cheat and create double accounts, a mistake could occur.

Have a nice day

Hi, thanks for the info. I have reported many spammers in maps to google as it really annoys me finding fake reviews and conflicts of interest. But only once I explore their profiles to understand if its spam or someone trying to get to 10 fairly or get to 10 by foul play.

Thank you for the feedback, @Andy-Stewart .

Your level is now coherent to your contributions, so I already sent a feedback to verify a potential glitch in your profile, that was showing a L2 just a few hours ago. I do not judge nor accuse. As you worked for a long time in IT, I believe you may understand that the consistency of the profile is the first things that we check (due to many fake profiles). I do apologize if I gave you a wrong impression.

As @LucioV already said, I am interested in Historical landmark too, mostly related to WW1.

Historical landmarks can be added on Google Maps for sure, even if I can understand that the difficult of adding an address can result in a “not applied”.

What I can see from your post is the a governative authority have all the information, included the Maps.

Why not to contact the authority, for a direct submission of the data throug the “Map Content Partners” program?

Thank you for your response and support. Having read comments on Forums about bugs and glitches and having again failed with my 4th Attempt, I tried a different category. A Tourist attraction in the Shetlands in the far North UK. I lived there for 3 years so thought why not. I had another Not Applied. I am nothing if not persistent so tried again at another location. This was Applied by the AI, without any delay (instantly) I have now created similar and have 4 new locations added. I was able to provide a Website and at least one picture, so I will continue with these adds (Tourist Attractions) until I get a Not Applied or run out of locations. As I am not a spammer, all are real locations with a relevant “tourist board” (local government agency), so it will actually help Tourists. Likely that will also give me the Master Trailblazer (21 of 50 so far). If by trial and error I find out what I was doing wrong I’ll update the posts. I’ll then return to my passion of WW2 RAF sites now deserted. I can see already there is no naming standard for some places that I know are long closed, So are no longer truly “RAF” likely this should be a separate thread. If you wanted to see an example go to Raf Bishopscourt 8C2J+Q7 Ballyhornan, Downpatrick. It was once RAF Bishops Court and closed in the late 80’s (I served there for 2 years). I tried an Edit to correct but some Local Guide(s) must have rejected it.
