I am not able to message any business on Google Maps and keep getting this ‘Cannot retrieve messages’ error. Does anyone have any clue why messages isn’t working for me.

I believe you are saying something about messaging through the Maps app.
We can send messages only to claimed businesses which have activated the feature.
To overcome the problem, I suggest clearing the cached and stored data.
If that doesn’t work then please reinstall the app
Nevertheless, can you share a screenshot of the error message? That will help in understanding the exact problem.

Yes, I am saying about the messages feature on the Google Maps. When I try to contact any business I am receiving ‘Cannot retrieve messages’ error. Attaching screenshot with this reply. When I click on messages I just get that error and nothing opens up and these are claimed business.
I did try after clearing cache but it isn’t working still.

I didn’t say the problem is resolved.
To settle any problem, first, we have to establish whether the issue is at the server or client-side.
Further, I suggested reinstalling the app. Believe the problem is still persistent.
Do you have access to another phone? Can you try messaging on that,?
Additionally, can you give some more details about your device? The make, model, Android version and Maps version etc.?
Meanwhile, I tried replicating your problem. Switched off the data. Still, the messaging remains active. Further, I disabled the messaging option through the settings. Then, the system prompted me to turn that on and so on.
Did you make any changes in the settings recently? That will also help in understanding the cause.
