During my visit to the GM Tech Center, I stayed in the Candlewood Suites in Warren and felt like it was a home away from home with great outdoors, a superb lobby, cozy rooms along with some awesome service. The owner was a friendly lady and talked to us and other guests like family.
The location was very close to the GM Tech Center with several food joints like McDonald’s and Taco Bell located close-by.
My room had a fully equipped kitchen, well-stocked with everything a hungry home-chef needs to settle in and start cooking like a fridge, stovetop, microwave, plenty of counter space, and of course, a dishwasher. An entire range of cutlery items was made available in multiple drawers inline with my matra of ‘a place for everything and everything in place’!
In the lobby area, there was also a cupboard stocked up on a variety of breakfast items, beverages, snacks, frozen entrees, and more, any time and all on the honor system in which I was supposed to calculate the total price of the items I have picked and drop the cash in a bowl kept nearby. No attendant, no cashier, and no cameras to watch.
Also available was a free entertainment library of CD’s and videos available at the front desk besides complimentary guest laundry and a free 24-hour gym facility plus an outdoor barbecue gazebo.
Some of the many surprises for me around the hotel were the well-paved footpaths or sidewalks as they are called in the US which is a rare sight back home in India. And these sidewalks with cycle tracks were all over right from the Candlewood suites to GM Tech Center located about 2 miles away facilitating walking over long distances without the pain and misery.
Another astonishing thing I observed was a self-service petrol-pump that is called a gas station in the US. No attendants, no hassle as the station had slots for both cash and credit cards.
The final astonishing thing that I observed outdoors during the stay at Candlewood Suites was dangling traffic lights as seen in the collage above. I found this to be quite innovative since the road span was super extra-wide and yet this helped avoid erecting poles for mounting traffic lights.

Being a chain of world-class hotels the Candlewood Suites had various accessibility arrangements for the differently-able and also for the vision-impaired.
