After Veronica;s , it was time to visit the Candies cafe in Bandra reclamation. There is another one at Pali Hill too. It is little expensive but worth once a time.
Candies, Bandra
Candies is one of Bandra’s most iconic old-school cafés, particularly known for its quirky interiors, garden-like seating and affordable bakery-style food.
Glimpse into History
Candies began in Lokhandwala, Andheri, before moving to Bandra. Its 17th Road, Khar branch helped establish the brand’s presence in the Bandra area. It later became particularly associated with Pali Hill and other Bandra locations.
It is a family-run business, with owner Allan Pereira personally involved in the distinctive décor. He has designed and supervised details such as the wall mosaics, glass paintings, furniture and other artwork—which explains why every corner of Candies feels so individualistic.
What makes Candies famous?
The Pali Hill outlet is almost an attraction in itself:
Colourful mosaic walls
Arches and unusual architectural details
Garden/outdoor seating
Hand-made artwork
Quirky furniture
Multiple levels and cosy corners
It’s very different from the polished, minimalist look of many modern Mumbai cafés.
What to eat
Candies has a huge menu, with 300+ food items and around 30 desserts, according to the café itself. Its chicken sandwich is reportedly the oldest item on the menu.
Popular choices include:
Chicken sandwich
Croissants
Mushroom quiche
Dragon chicken
Chicken steak
Pizza
Cakes & pastries
Chocolate desserts
Cold coffee
The Pali Hill outlet is currently listed around ₹800 for two, making it relatively affordable for the Bandra area.

Interesting Facts about Candies
It is housed in a four-storey Portuguese-style villa, which is a big part of its charm. The Pali Hill branch has terraces, staircases and little corners rather than the layout of a conventional café.
The interiors are almost like an art gallery. Owner Allan Pereira personally worked on much of the décor, including mosaics, glass paintings, furniture and collected objects.
The décor draws from multiple cultures—including Portuguese, Spanish, Grecian and Moroccan influences. One particularly quirky feature is the “Room of Lamps”, filled with Moroccan-style lamps.
It has a connection with Mumbai’s art community. Candies created Casa Candies, a space for workshops involving art, craft, music and other creative activities.
Its Wall of Art has featured works by more than 20 Urban Sketchers Mumbai artists, turning an ordinary café wall into a rotating community art space.
A lot of the bakery products are made in-house, including breads, croissants, baguettes, buns and rolls.
It’s a family-run business. Allan Pereira’s daughter Beverly Pereira has also been involved in developing its cultural and creative activities.
The café feels surprisingly removed from Mumbai, despite being in affluent Pali Hill. Its terraces, greenery and multi-level design create a little hideaway from the surrounding city.
And there’s a nice Pali Hill connection: the neighbourhood itself was largely forested and agricultural until the mid-20th century before becoming the affluent residential area it is today.
