Miyajima island is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the top places to visit in Japan. But it has a plastic pollution problem as the plastic oyster tubes daily wash up on its beaches from their floating oyster farms just offshore. Join me as I meet up with local google guides and volunteers to work for 2 hours on beach cleanup, then have a nice picnic lunch together and then enjoy walking around beautiful Miyajima island to enjoy the rest of the day at shrines, temples, shops, eateries and more. We will meet at 9am at Kiyomori shrine which is along the beach just on the other side of the Giant Tori gate and floating Itsukushima shrine. Please bring gloves, plastic bags, hats and refillable water bottles for the volunteer activity. Looking forward to meeting new local guides and having a nice morning with you at Miyajima!
@jjwalsh congratulations for such a great effort. To make efforts for an eco-friendly environment is a great cause. I am happy you are contributing. Best wishes.
I’m so sorry to have to cancel this event friends, but due to the Coronavirus COVID19 outbreak in Japan as well as across the world, we are encouraged to cancel any social gatherings. If you are still clean to visit Miyajima and do a cleanup, I hope to reschedule the event in May - hope you are able to join then when we have a better understanding of the pandemic situation. Again, I’m really sorry to have to cancel and thank you for understanding!
