Canberra - most liveable city in the world

According to Numbeo which analyses the quality of life index, Canberra is at the top of the list for 2019 for best quality of life in the world (https://www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/rankings.jsp). The purpose of this post is to provide you with an example as to why Canberra is the best city in the world. As a regular diner I will focus on food, but I will list other reasons as well, without going into too much detail as I will focus on the other examples on another post.

I have been living in Canberra for nearly two years now (relocated from Sydney), as I was curious about why it was rated one of the best cities to live in the world. Now I call this city home. My wife and I have bought a house here and we’re planning to start a new life here. There are many features of Canberra that make it one of the most liveable cities in the world: - In order to live, we need good quality food and drinks. This particular restaurant has the best Canberra has to offer. Pilot Restaurant is located in one of the inner north suburbs called Ainslie. At the time of dining at the restaurant, it had only been in operation for six months so had not been known to the locals just yet. It was searchable via google maps and although has 4.9 stars average, but number of reviews was no more than 25. Most other established restaurants have over 200 reviews, making them more valid. The reason this experience was special to me was that we happened to be there on our 2 year wedding anniversary and I organised this booking lunch as a surprise, so it had a personal touch to it. The quality of the food, presentation, service, and price were all five star. The only reason the restaurant hasn’t got a chef’s hat (Australia’s version of Michelin star) is because it’s new in the community but I’m confident it’s only a matter of time until they receive one. I have included some photos of the dishes we had to support my claim that this is arguably Canberra’s best restaurant. - There are four seasons in the year (unlike some cities where it either rains or doesn’t rain); - The roads are wider, allowing more trees on the streets making the bush capital - some people actually see kangaroos in their backyard; - There are lots of mountains to accommodate for trail running and hiking; - Cycle paths are everywhere making it super convenient for people to cummute via bicycle without worrying about weaving through traffic; I hope I have made Canberra more visible on the map to people around the world as most people I have met from overseas do not know Canberra is Australia’s capital city (not Sydney or Melbourne), and is truly one of the best cities to live in. So next time you visit Australia, come and say hello to us in Canberra. My name is Thien Vuong, and I currently live in Canberra, Australia.
