I am attempting to add my photos to a city or town. Some places work others don’t. I thought it was because there is already too many photos of that location, but that is not the case. Here is an example of a small town in Mexico, Villa Diaz Ordaz, that has 3 photos attached to it, but does not allow me to add my photos. Any suggestions? … thanks.

As far as I can remember and with my experience on Google maps,it’s not possible to add a photo to a town,city,or even a village on the maps as a local guide.
I really am not sure what you mean by some works and some other don’t work. Even if you add it by some other means,I believe it will be marked private to be seen by only you. So maybe you think it worked but it actually didn’t.

You are so right, Sholal. I guess you used to be able to post using the town name, but no more. You’ve got to wonder why though. I have many photos posted in the cities. As an avid traveller, I think it was a great way “see” the town. So I guess now you have to pick a “POI” place to post photos or make a new POI within the town, correct?
In fact, I guess I ran into this situation back in 2018 and didn’t really understand the situation. Here is what I said then:

There are many cities and even small towns where you can not add a photo without choosing a labelled location within the town. Sometimes there is a labelled location for a small town.
How do the photos get into the searched location of the city or town?
For example, I just traveled to the great city of Oaxaca, Mexico. One of my photos from 2014 appears with the search result for the city - but I am unable to add any photos to that search result. I must find a labelled location (e.g. Zocalo Oaxaca) and add only photos taken at that exact location. Will those photos eventually show up under the general “Oaxaca city” search result as they are within the city border?
I have shots of fun and colorful activities in the streets, but with no place to post them.
I think some towns’ population would appreciate having photos posted to the town search location rather to a business, park or church. It is all about seeing what the town is like for us travellers, right? I liked it when you could simply click on the map and add a photo to that location. I also think it offered a lot more information for the viewer.
If someone could shed some light on how this all works and why, that would be much appreciated.
