Regarding photos on connect,please bear in .mind that there is a limit to the size of photo you can post.See this method (Here) to edit your photo in full size.

Posting a photo in the “update” section of Google Maps have the scope to inform the people who visit the listing about some update in the place itself, and the photo have to be accompanied by a comment. The section has not been designed as an alternative way to post photos, but simply as a way to add updates.

In any case the photos posted on the “update” section as also visible in the “Photos” section, so I don’t see an issue in this.

Was the place where you added the updates created by you? If so this is the reason why you don’t see the photos I. The “photos” section: a new business will show the photos added only 3 or 4 days after the approval of the listing.
