If I’m currently showing as, say, Nate Local Guide, can I change this to another name? e.g. Mike Local Guide? How do I do this? Thx.

I’m answering my own question here - hopefully for your benefit!
I just tried changing my name in account settings, and everything is fine. Guide status clearly linked solely to the account, not the visible name.

Hi @Nate2 , The name that appears under your contributions on Google Maps is the same that you registered in your Google Account. You can change your user name, and it will reflect on all Google Products. You won’t lose points or badges. Please click here to change: https://myaccount.google.com/personal-info
If you want to change your alias on Local Guides Connect (it is different from Maps), please follow @Julien44 instructions: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/ChangeLogin
It will not affect on your badges on Connect as well.
