Can I attend the Connect Live pop-up in Manila, Philippines instead of Delhi, India?

I have been invited to attend Delhi’s Connect Live pop-up on December the 8th. While I am happy that I have been invited, I am extremely disheartened that I won’t be able to attend. I have moved to Manila, Philippines and also updated my Phone number and Location to Philippines on my Google account.

Is there a way I could attend a Connect Live pop-up here in the Philippines?

What can I do to ensure I receive invites to events in Philippines and not India, going forward?

Wow @ashish_k_singhal congratulations! You should consider travel to Dheli for the Local Guides Live summit!!

Hi @ashish_k_singhal have you changed your city here https://maps.google.com/localguides/home/settings ?

If you have, its possible that the list of invitees was prepared before you made your change.

I have removed the screenshot as it had enough information to identify the event, the location and to sneak in.

Nothing has been announced for the Philippines at this time.

@LucioV I wish I could  But I have office here and travelling would not be possible. That is why I wanted to know if there was also something similar in Manila that I could attend. Thanks for your response!

Hi @PaulPavlinovich ,

Thank you so much for your response!

I apologize for posting the screenshot candidly. I will be careful going forward.

And thanks to you, I realized my location was still set to New Delhi, India on that link you shared. I had changed the location on my Google account but I guess I had to change here separately too. I have now updated it correctly. Greatly appreciate it!

Hopefully something similar will be planned for Manila soon and I can attend.

Thanks a ton for your help!

Glad to be of help @ashish_k_singhal I don’t get to know where Connect Live might go next, I get to watch from afar like you. Now that you’ve changed your setting if an event comes up for Manilla you’d be in the running for selection. It’s really cool to see the Connect Live concept spread around the world.

It has been an amazing time of growth @ashish_k_singhal I remember in 2016 they told us at Local Guides Summit (the predecessor to Connect Live) that there were 50M Local Guides, in 2017 they told us that there were 75M Local Guides. I don’t remember if there was a figure shared from 2018 but I cannot imagine that the growth has slowed down. It is a fun and personally rewarding program to be part of. Both here on Connect and through the data we all share on Maps. I remember when Maps was just maps and it was empty, then City Explorers started in a few places and that transitioned into Local Guides. Maps is now bursting with information that is useful to us as everyday people who need to find places and things.

Those are mind boggling numbers @PaulPavlinovich !!! I am sure we have crossed the 100M mark!

Maps indeed has grown a lot and it has been a fantastic growth. I find myself using Maps more often now and I think contributing to Maps gives us this great feeling. I am positive, there’s lot more to maps and Guides will have a lot more to contribute and be rewarded as part of this wonderful community.

Absolutely, just recently I’ve been making my own blue lines in Street View @ashish_k_singhal this has turned out to be quite a lot of fun and it means I’m visiting roads, parks and tracks that I might not ever have had a look at. New horizons and a lasting positive personal impact on the world - that is what Local Guides is all about. Some people talk about changing the world, we’re doing it. We’re bridging national and culture gaps and learning about each other.

That is wonderfully put @PaulPavlinovich ! I couldn’t agree more!

We are actually doing what a lot of people only talk about doing.
