Bunya Mountains in Queensland is one of our go-to camping spots. Close to Brisbane, an easy morning drive, yet a unique landscape and climate. Camping permits required, sites can be booked on the Queensland Government web site.
Burtons Well camp site, Bunya Mountains
Things we like about the Bunya Mountains include the views and natural landscape. You feel like you are at the top of the surrounding country.

Bunya Mountain Grass Trees, Xanthorrhoea glauca
It is hilly (as you would expect), but we still manage to ride our bikes.
High Point
The visitor centre has some interesting local fauna displays, plus snacks and drinks are near by.
