Campeche Island: Another natural beauty of Brazil.

When I meet this island, at the first time, I did want to share this discovery with everyone! Soon, I thought it would be incredible to share on Google Local Guide, due to the breadth that these posts can gain, through the Google international community.

The Campeche is a small island that is close to another big island called Florianópolis, capital of Santa Catarina State. These islands are located in the south of Brazil. Before visiting this island, I hadn’t even heard about this place!

Several rock art were discovered in this island. However, these arts cannot be dated exactly. But they were made by the ancient inhabitants of this island, before the Portuguese colonization came to Brazil.

These rock art have different shapes. But I believe that the authors of these arts would like to exhibit the everyday things, such as fish and animals, present in their daily lives.

This island is hot in summer, so a sea bath is very refreshing. The island has a beautiful beach with calm waters, on the opposite side where the stones are. The day I visited the Island, the water was very clear and very favorable for diving.

On the island there is a very large rock, at the end of a mountain, that looks like the head of a giant turtle.

The Campeche is well preserved, because it doesn’t have much visitation most part of the year. Therefore, there is only one place to have lunch on the entire island. Also, there is no place to stay, so all visitors should leave before dark.

The only living beings on this island are some families of coatis, a species of small mammals that live among the island’s trees and vegetation.

They are not domesticated, so visitors cannot feed these animals. They feed with the fruits of the island’s trees.

After posting some photos of this island on Google Maps, some people asked how to get to this island. Also, they asked what appropriate place to catch a boat. I was very happy to bring this discovery to those who didn’t know about this island. Also, I was happy to be able to clarify some doubts about the mean transportation that visitors can take to go to this island. I love to know that my posts are being useful to Google Maps and Local Guides!
