Camino Frances Pilgrim Route now works in Google Sat Nav

I have been in Google Content Partners for over a year now and one of the Trails I have been working on is the famous Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela which has about 100 NON-Active links (over 800 kms).

Here below is my “progress report” on the project, now complete, and I am most grateful to those at Content Partners who helped to fix these links.

A great project @Camo_Rama . Having walked the famous Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela myself, I can certainly say that this will be a great help to anyone doing it. I think it would be great to also extend this to FInisterra as this is a very popular extension to the Camino de Santiago. Anyway, I only wish your project was done when I did this long walk :joy:

This is very interesting, @Camo_Rama

Congratulations on your accomplishments.

Are you using Google My Maps to submit corrections to your Content Partner representative?

I am aware of using Google Streetview but what is “Google Sat Nav”? Is it something you created? Please share some more info on what you call Google Sat Nav.

Update:

I played with your website:

https://camoapps.com/caminofrances/indexapp.html

On one walk I clicked on “Sat Nav Public Transport” and then changed the Google Maps navigation to “Walking” and saw this:

Have you been able to create or improve the “Routes” called NA-110 or Carr. de Francia/N-135 routes via the content partner program?

I would very much like to learn more from you on this. Including how Google Maps can be used to navigate along such routes. Also, I would like to understand why you decided to create a stand-alone application/website instead of letting users use Google Maps.

All the best

No, that Sat Nav for Section 1 is ONLY for public transport - you need to go one frame down the page to Walk 1 and click the blue Sat Nav tab marked as SatNav direction and you then get the Walking blue dots for the exact Camino route walk (Walk 1 in that default case)

To make it less confusing take a look at the “Trackcard” below for Walk 31 which is a cutdown version of the Web-App, one Walk at a time

Trackcard for Walk 31

Click the blue Sat Nav tag and go to the green screen below to select the first green tag

Then I will explain the rest

Yes it is a long walk taking about 6 weeks but making the Web-App (almost complete) took 6 months. I started on Camino Norte (start Santander) and got to Walk 14 (of 23) then 6 months ago I started Camino Frances and just about to move back to Norte.

Finisterra is on my list but some way down and as I reach 80 soon I hope I get the time to do it! Did you see the movie The Way (2010) which takes the pilgrims to the coast?

Here is the full Camino Frances as it stands almost complete

You asked

“Also, I would like to understand why you decided to create a stand-alone application/website instead of letting users use Google Maps.”

My Web-Apps were initially made to help walkers (mainly on UK National Trails) to see the Street View Panos that were being created by Google Trekker back in 2016 (and DIY Trekker people using the new breed of tiny pano cameras). On Google Maps these get confused with blue lines for Google Car panos so I select panos generally a mile or so apart and generate a thumbnail to take the user TO the pano in Google Maps.

Then because Google has so many great tools I added a FlyOver and Elevation.

Sat Nav (the “directions” in Google Maps) has been a more recent addition mainly because there were so many “dead links” along these trails that it was rare to be able to construct an exact replica of the official file path for the walk.

Content Partners (and sometimes Road Fix) has solved that problem and I have added Sat Nav custom directions to my Web-Apps which the user simply “sends to their phone” to navigate the EXACT route in Google Maps.

Or IF a user knows the exact route they can (now) create their own custom Sat Nav in Google Maps with all the links ACTIVE, but I simply do that FOR them via the green tag.
