Camere d'aria 2019, first stage. From Split to Korcula

The route of the stage

An other bicycling adventure is starting. 16 aprile 2019, Split (Croatia).

The night ended with an awakening from a nightmare. I did not sleep very well due to the evening food which was not the best so I found myself having a nightmare from CMP, the company from which I am now retired. The dream concerned a visit to the old offices by Nicoletta to say goodbye to me on my departure from work.
She Compliment me with two different types of crostoli to taste and let her know which were the best. I chose the first one, made by Carla della Morocolor for the village festival. The comparison was with those made by Mr. Tonello’s daughter which did not seem so good to me.
Then, as a final gift, Nicoletta handed me a green shopping bag, with about thirty chicks all yellow inside. Does it have any meaning? If I drop them here Silvano, my business partner, gets angry. Then I thought I could take them up to Paola’s grandmother’s old house, but it occurred to me that there was no one left.

What a nightmare! I couldn’t stay in bed anymore, so I got up. I took advantage of the early morning rise, enjoying the arrival of dawn on the beach. The water was calm enough and the persistent wind from the night before had completely calmed down.
The sea and the sky had colors ranging from red, indigo, to blue. I was all wrapped up in my warm wear but a group of Teutonics was already in the water at 7:00.

Having recovered our weapons and luggage, we left for the ferry that would take us to the island of Korcula. We enjoyed a mini cruise of more than 3 hours passing by the islands of Brac, Hvar, and in particular we saw the city of Hvar and then arrived at Vela Luka, the port of entry for the island of KorÄŤula. We climbed the hills of the island, a path of about 45 km, enjoying the orchids, which nature offered us, in the 750 meters of altitude that we had to face.

The start was not the best and we had to figure out the best pace. Some stops on the hardest ramps, some short stretches on foot. As the km increased, our breath and our legs turned better, 15 km of baggage out of 8, 9% make themselves felt.
Not needing to compete but, only to arrive, we always used the 36/28 uphill. The last 10 km were practically a dive towards the town of KorÄŤula. Beautiful hotel where we are staying, a huge round swimming pool overlooking the bay of Korcula. See you tomorrow, towards the island of Mljet!

Ciao @plavarda ,

Ciao e grazie

Paolo
