Hi dear LG friends,
(The above image is from Brand owner’s site)
Just a quick Note on Nikon’s AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens…
Many people ask me: What are these “AF-P, DX, VR” etc. stands for? It is very simple & interesting, once you understand the concept.
In simple words:
A. Nikon has two Auto-focus systems (in this series):
- AF-S Nikkor lenses uses Nikon’s “Silent Wave Motor” (SWM) system &
- AF-P Nikkor lenses use “Pulse” (Stepper) motor which are even quieter and smoother for autofocus (than an AF-S lens),
B. Nikon has two size of its Image Sensors or 2 Formats:
- The DX-format is the smaller sensor & has a physical size of 24x16mm
- The FX-format bigger sensor measures 36x24mm (almost full frame – 35mm film)
C. VR Stands for “Vibration Reduction”, which is an image stabilization technology;
- VR reduces blur caused by camera shakes.
- Also, helps to get better sharp images in low light.
- VR Lenses allow up to four stops slower Shutter Speed than a non-VR lens
D. Name "NIKKOR" = Nikkor is the name of the Subsidiary Company of Nikon which manufactures Lenses for Nikon Cameras.
E. 18-55mm stands for the 18 mm Wide to Zoomed 55mm (Focal Length) of the Lens
F. f/3.5-5.6 = The Widest Aperture *f=*3.5 in 18mm to the Aperture *f=*5.6 at 55 mm Zoom. (further details on request, please)
This third generation Lens, although has limited zoom, is one of the well reputed member in the Nikkor family.
Hope this sample will help many; if Canon or Sony details are needed, it can be provided. Also, if anyone is interested to go deep in this Lens, we can discuss.
