Camel House which was a Royal Pavilion

Camel House, Orchha Fort, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Camel House is just locted in the east and close to the Jahangir Mahal’s main gate. This structure is having its own architectural significance.

Its a square structure standing on a high rock, was built in late 16th century A.D. and was used as Baradari or Royal Pavilion to enjoy cool breeze on springs. These water springs systems were hanged on iron rings fixed on walls at top. Later on in early seventeenth century, a high passage was added having five high arch doors at each side and used as a stable for camels. This structure is built by stones and lime mortar was used for plastering and constructing walls and pointed arches. These arches are supporting the roof. Numerous arched, square and rectangular niches were made by plaster.

A beautiful baradari or summer house once which was equipped with artificial water springs and was decorated, which was converted into a camel house, this structure still stands with its past intact and most of the tourists do not wish to hear its story by avoiding its visit.

After this edifice there are many spectacular temples like Vanvasi Temple, Shiva Temple, Dasiyon Ka Mahal etc can be accessed via Shahi Darwaza as these monuments are located close to the Betwa River.
