Hello to the community of local Google Maps guides!!
My name is Monica and I am very proud to have reached level 9 as a local “Google Maps” guide throughout this year.
I was born in Argentina and live in the city of Villa Mercedes, San Luis.
Today, I’ll show you one of the most emblematic places in my city, “La calle Angosta”
This historic street is very close to the old railway terminal, facing the tracks.
The “Calle Angosta” is a different street from others, it is narrower, it has a single sidewalk and it is also very short, only 800m full of history, art and tradition.
And as Alfonso and Zavala’s song says “in the poplars it begins and in the mill it ends”…
This place has been converted into a huge cultural complex, which has a covered theater called “Alfonso y Zavala” in tribute to two great local guitarists, with capacity for 5000 people.
During the month of December, it takes place the “Festival Nacional de la Calle Angosta”, where local and national musicians participate, as well as folk dance groups.
In the surroundings of the theater there are different sectors where local craftsmen congregate to sell their typical products, stand of artisans and independent designers, and food court.
On several occasions with my colleagues from the folkloric dance academy “Rincón Nativo” we have danced on the main stage the well-known song “La calle Angosta”.
If you have the opportunity to visit Villa Mercedes, take a tour of the Calle Angosta complex, it is open all year, and the access is completely free. You will be able to enjoy a beautiful walk, listen to local music at the Boliche Don Miranda and eat a rich argentine meat in the “Warehouse on Calle Angosta”.
I’ll be waiting you!!
