Happy early Seventh Birthday of Local Guides Connectto all my fellow Local Guides 
On July 15th, 2023, we will be celebrating the 7th birthday of LocalGuidesConnect (LGC), which is a platform we all love. It’s amazing to see how LGC started, grew, and became an important part of our lives.
As #LocalGuides , we are proud to help millions of people around the world by contributing to Google Maps. We also enjoy supporting our Local Guides community on Local Guides Connect.
Today, I want to talk about the campaigns we have done in the past five years: Unofficial LocalGuidesConnect Worldwide Birthday Celebrations 2019, Celebrations 2020, Celebrations 2021 and Celebrations 2022.
These campaigns were a way to express our love for the LocalGuidesConnect Platform, the LGC Family and its extended members, Google Moderators, Connect Moderators, and everyone involved in keeping this platform running smoothly.
I want to thank @OmerAli for motivating me, as well as @JaneBurunina and all the wonderful Local Guides friends who supported this initiative during th2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 celebrations.
In addition to the support of my wonderful friends in previous years, the campaign for 2023 will be led by TusharSuradkar, NareshDarji, and myself.
What’s the plan? Well, we’re going to do what we’re good at - making helpful contributions to Google Maps and organizing meetups to share our knowledge.
Let’s show our support and love by organizing meetups all around the world to celebrate the 7th birthday of LocalGuides (Meetups will take place from July 1st to July 31st, 2023).
There are many ways we can take part in the celebrations. Here are some ideas:
- Supporting small businesses by walking around by adding and correcting information about these businesses in Google Maps (either alone or in small groups).
- Going for a walk to edit and improve maps (either alone or in small groups) Map Editing Walk.
- Taking a walk to capture photos of Tourist Attractions of your city and add them on Google Maps (either alone or in small groups) Photo Walk.
- Going on a food adventure (either alone or in small groups) taking photos and uploading &, adding information about restaurants on Google Maps in Food Crawl Meet-Up .
- Taking a walk to assess accessibility (either alone or in small groups) to share the information for the people with different abilities on Google Maps to guide them about the place Accessibility Walk.
- Organizing an Environmental meet-up to clean up a beach, River, Park or plant trees (either alone or in small groups).
- Hosting a meet-up to share knowledge and skills (can be done outdoors or virtually) Knowledge Sharing Meet-up.
- Arranging Virtual meet-ups to share skills and knowledge that can benefit our local businesses by the help of Google Maps.
Let’s make a simple impact. Here’s how:
- Encourage new people on Local Guides Connect (LGC) to host their first meetup or join one.
- Show our support and enthusiasm during the meetups.

The invitation for leaders to host the “Unofficial LocalGuidesConnect Worldwide Birthday Celebration Meetup” is now open.
To participate, submit your meetup in the Meet-ups Category and make sure to tag us in your post. We will update this post so that others can see and follow along.
After the anniversary celebrations and once you have created a fantastic recap post, we will gather everything together with our LGC family in a mega recap post on Connect.
Do you need help hosting a meetup? Here are some simple steps you can follow:
- Create an event post on Local Guides Connect or any social media platform where many people can see it.
- Go to the Meet-up Section.
- Click at Submit a Meet-up
- When naming your meetup, keep it organized and coordinated by using the following format:
[CityName] LGC Birthday Meetup
Replace [CityName] with the name of your meetup city.
Abbreviations:
LGCB → abbrev LocalGuidesConnect (Unofficial)
B → abbreviation for Birthday
For example:
- LGCB VIRTUAL Top 100 Local Guides Leaderboards Meetup
LGCB Photowalk Paseo de la Reforma
Mykolaiv Local Guides Connect 5th Birthday Meet-up
You can also use the hashtag #lgcbirthday in your post and when promoting it on social media.
For Virtual Meet-ups:

Create an event by posting on Local Guides Connect or any social media platform. Describe the purpose of the meetup and include a short agenda.

Before the meetup, download the Meetup App like Google Meet if you’re using a mobile device. Visit HTTPS://meet.google.com.

Prepare any questions you may have and write them down for discussion during the meetup.

When you join the virtual meetup, make sure to mute your microphone unless you’re speaking.

Submit your meetup in the Meet-up Category, selecting a date between July 1st and July 31st, 2023.

Specify the city or country where your meetup will take place.

Insert the URL of the event you created.

Choose a suitable picture related to your virtual meetup and upload it as the topic image.

Submit your meetup and await a confirmation message of approval within 72 hours.

For Outdoor Meet-ups:

Create an event on Local Guides Connect’s Meet-up Section or any social media platform. Describe the purpose of the meetup or walk and provide details about what participants should bring, such as cameras, power banks, water bottles.

Select a date between July 1st and July 31st, 2023.

Insert the URL of the event you created.

Choose a suitable picture related to your walk or meetup and upload it as the topic image.

Submit your meetup and await a confirmation message of approval within 72 hours.
