Calgary's Emergency First Responders

In every community, there are specially trained personnels who form a team and are responsible for lives and properties. As well as the sanity of the entire community, simply by their act of service.

In our community here in Calgary city of Alberta Canada, we have a team of specially trained people called Emergency First Responders (otherwise known as Fire Department). They are the first to respond to any emergency in any part of the city before the actual department/team is called upon (which depends on the situation; it maybe medical or any crime related issue). If it is a fire situation, they respond first and eventually address the situation.

The reason I like to mention this special force is due to their response to a case that affected my friend’s mum. My friend Tito holds his 75 year old mother dearly and wants to give her every support she requires at her old age. Tito and I made a great accommodation arrangement for his mum at the most convenient seniors home which is just some streets away from Tito and my house. The idea behind this decision is so that every time Tito’s mum calls or needs attention, we can quickly reach her.

On a very fateful day when Tito and I decided to visit the central library downtown to finish up a project we were both involved in. We headed for the library shortly after visiting his mum, we had gotten to the library after 3 hours neck-deep into our project. And of course our phones were on mute, with the thought that we will have our eyes on the phones intermittently. Time had passed after Tito’s mum had tried to reach us a couple of times for help as she had fallen on her way to her washroom (toilet), it was such a bad fall that left her hip loose and she couldn’t stand up. It was the help of another senior within the neighborhood that saw her through the glass window and called the first responders as she declared it was an emergency. They got there swiftly and had to force the door open, they got her on a stretcher into the ambulance and straight to the emergency center. It was after all the drama in our absence that we remembered to check our phones and Tito saw his mum’s missed calls, he called his mum and one of the officers picked up and told him to come over to the emergency center.

We got in the car and raced there, saw that Tito’s mum had gotten first aid treatment and had been stabilized. If not for the prompt response of the emergency responders. His mum would not have survived the domestic accident.
