Cake : Homemade Oil fried rice-cake

Hello foodie friends !

This is my first post on Food & Drink topic.
Do you like Cake/Pitha(পিঠা) ?

Now I am sharing with you a recipe for making cake which is oil fried-Cake (তেলে ছাঁকা চালের গুঁড়ার পিঠা). This cakes were made by me with help of my mother.

  • Ingredients (for making 15 pieces of Cake) :
  1. Rice flour /চালের গুঁড়া - 300g
  2. Molasses/গুড় 80g (approximately and add more or less as your taste)
  3. Anise /মৌরি 5g (Scientific name of Anise: Pimpinella anisum )
  4. Small green cardamom /ছোট এলাচ - 2pics (Scientific name of Cardamom: Elettaria cardamomum)
  5. Cooking oil as requirement.

  • Procedures :
  1. As mentioned take 300g rice flour in a bowl to make 15 pieces of cake/Pitha.
  2. Add hot water to rice flour and mix in well. (As shown in the collage picture marking the number-(5) on picture.)
  3. Also, mix with this rice flour with anise powder and green cardamom powder. Adding these powder create fragrance.
  4. Next, take a pan and put cooking oil (approx.250ml.) and let it be hot for 5min.(approx.)
  5. Now oil is heated and drop the mixture in this pan.
  6. After few minutes when you see it is fried, take it out of the pan.

Now this cake is ready to serve with family and friends.

I love to hear from you what is your special food. And, what you think about this food item.

*I mention the scientific name of some ingredients for specifying the items.

Thank you all foodie friends for your attention here.

Hi @KalyanPal , thanks to share your recipe with us. But something else kept my attention , it was the name/word Pitha. Actually , I am from Banja Luka, Republic of Srpska , B&H. We have the meal in our nutrition called “Pita”. Pita, also known as pie, is a filled pastry made in homes and bakeries around many countries across the Balkans. Between the layers of dough, pitas are most commonly made with cheese, minced meat, greens, or baked without any stuffing at all.
In Bosnia we call it “pita” only if it’s made with chees, greens . But if it’s filled with minced meat we call it “Burek”. In Serbia and other countries across the Balkans you can here that people order Burek with cheese or meat . We say that all the pies are pies (feminine nouns) only burek is pie (Masculine noun).
As a matter of fact Serbian and Sanskit have lots of words in common. For an example You can find it here https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/anthroscape/sanskrit-and-serbian-languages-t11608.html . Now, pitha/pita can be added to the list. :slightly_smiling_face:

Regards from Banja Luka

Hi @Zorica , thanks for showing interest in this food item.

I was late in replying you because I was gathering more information on Pita which you mentioned.

First of all, this food item- Cake has no appropriate english name so I can’t able to translate food name from Bengali language to English language properly. I directly write the exact name in English without translating.

The shops in our region West Bengal mark and level this type food item as Pitha (also they mark and level this items in Bengali language which is “পিঠা”).

As this two food items are totally different so no need to add Pitha in the list which you mentioned.

Regards

Have a good day !
