This is the Caci Dance, performed by the Menggarai Tribe from Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. I had the pleasure of visiting this island numerous times from 2016 o 2019 for my work in promoting the far side of Indonesia to tourism.
Visiting the Menggarai Village on top of a small hill was one of the highlights apart from going to Komodo Island to see the mighty Komodo Dragons. For any culture lovers, this village is so filled with age-old culture, it is quite fascinating to learn and understand it.
If I do plan another trip to Flores, I will surely make a visit here as it has become part of my routine to explore the many different cultures around the world. Anyway, I just wanted to share this photo of the 2 Manggarai male warriors performing their cultural dance which looks like a war dance.
Having been to Indonesia a few times I have never seen this type of performance @MalaysiaAsia . Is it in just this pocket of the country or more universal? So how widely is it performed though Indonesia?
Actually, this is rarely performed unless there is some massive cultural show in common places. This particular dance i caught was at the source itself, which is at their own village in Flores Island.
Not Bali or Lombok, all the way further east, towards Raja Ampat. That’s where I usually explore, to escape the commercial Indonesia of Bali and so on.
Hi Usman, thank you so much and always happy to share. If the younger generation does not follow in the old ways, the culture will eventually die off, which is happening amin various parts of Indo and also around the world.
