Bun Ken - Another type of unique noodle at Phu Quoc island, Vietnam

It is absolutely admitted that I really enjoy exploring unique local foods not only about the freaky name but also how the delicacy is made. And, Bun Ken Ut Luom is considered one of best foods in Phu Quoc I am gonna mention next in my bucket list.

“Bun” is vermicelli, “Ken” is the way people usually calls for dishes that are made of coconut milk according to the Khmer.

Wait…my warning … this dish is not for people who are a fan of meat!!!

Well, I am saying that as it’s really healthy with varied types of vegetables such as raw papaya, bean sprouts, cucumber and raw vegetables. The soul of this food is the broth made of yellowtail scad or snakehead fish ground and marinated with curry, five flavors and coconut milk to create unique paste. The broth is only enough to mix vermicelli with other ingredients instead of flooding the whole bowl.

Varied types of raw vegetables help to balance the whole taste due to coconut milk. For guys, I am pretty sure that you get to try at least two bowls. It’s truly unique, quirky but delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

Address: 87 30/4 street, Duong Dong, Phu Quoc island, Vietnam

Cost: 45,000 VND (1.9 USD)/a bowl, 10,000 VND (0.5 USD)/a glass of soy milk

My evaluation: 4.5/5
