Bug in Android maps app

When I add a new pin using my Android phone I repeatedly experience this very annoying error. It only happens when there is a weblink that needs to be copy/pasted to the pin.

I type in all the details I have and add some pictures. Then I jump to or open Chrome to find and copy the relevant link. All is good so far.

But when I jump back to Maps all my work typing in information is completely lost. The Google Maps App kind of restarts instead of letting me continuing adding info to the new place I was currently adding.

This is very annoying and can easily prevent me from wasting my time creating new places.

Am I the only one experiencing this bug? Or do someone have suggestions to a work-around?

Waiting to add some info later is not a good solution since I need to add enough details to get the pin approved and not just end up in the endless queue of pending pins.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen I had the same issue yesturday, I was adding a place, after typing in all the information, I needed to open photo using the same device, when returning back from the photo were it had contact details. I had to start afresh. Everything was lost. Not sure if this is how the app suppose to operate.

Thanks fir sharing your experience, @Raphael-Mahumane

I’m quite sure it is a programming bug since I had the same problem on my previous phone. And the problem is not there when I copy/paste a link while editing and existing pin.

Cheers

What can I do to get this issue to the attention of the developers of the Google maps app? Maybe @PaulPavlinovich would know?

I’m a local guide and am very frustrated. I go to write a review. I write for 10 minutes, then I try to add a photo and it switches to a screen of the photo and deletes everything I just wrote!

Update Note: This is on my desktop PC.

@Melissa2019B I completely agree with you. I wented my frustrations about the same bug a few days back : https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Bug-in-Android-maps-app/td-p/1786686#.XO75s5VYZyA.link I think I have been able to avoid the problem by adding pics last and also I leave the cursor on an editable line when I jump to another app to copy some info I want to add.

I have experienced that a couple of times too. But i have come to realise that such happens when i use some phones type that have a limited memory span. It is really annoying and frustrating especially that such reviews are done as the thoughts come to ones heart and rarely one be able to repeat same after it gets wiped up. The best way to deal with such is to first post the review and the go it on your timeline to add the photos.

Dear @Melissa2019B ,

It seems very discomfort to you, If you are trying to post from smartphone, then the problem is still exist as same as you explained as I was feeling too and mentioned in my post, see here. Or if you are posting from your laptop, then, the problems exist only after you are become idle for more than a few minutes and your login status changed to offline and you will not see your profile photo or icon at that time if you continue to post, it happens.

So I personally request you to Copy all the text before clicking to photo upload icon or as soon as you finished all your typing or you can type all the content in ms word or text format in other file and copy all that then simply paste as your desire along with your photo which has to be uploaded. Thank you.

Don’t worry @Melissa2019B it happens to me also. It’s a temporary error.

I suggest you to write a review and submit it without adding a photo first. Please try this, this will workout.

Later you can add the photo to the place.

Let me know if it is works.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thanks for posting your question on Connect and for the detailed explanation.

Occasionally it can happen that your Android app is not able to memorise the last edits that you’ve made and when you return to add a link or other information, the previous details could get lost.

Do you mind to try the steps described here on your device to Fix an installed Android app that isn’t working?

Please try to clear the cache, the app’s data, to uninstall it and also each other steps described. And then, please double check if your issue still persists.

Hi @Melissa2019B ,

Could you please try out the steps that I’ve just sent to @MortenCopenhagen in his post Bug in Android app and let us know if the issue still persists? I’m going to merge your post there as it seems that you experience the same.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen , @VijayaNagesh , @Raphael-Mahumane , @Meenux ,

I would like to kindly ask you to provide us screenshots to show us this issue.

To further investigate the problem, please also confirm:

  • the device you’re using

  • the version of the Android app

  • the version of your Google Maps app.

Thanks in advance!

@KatyaL I’m on Paraglider-vacation for another 9 days. I will test after my return home. Cheers and thanks.

Thanks for the answers, people. Unless Google fixes this, I’ll take your suggestions and do the review first, in a word processor file ( this is on my desktop PC ), then copy to the review box, and save, and do the photo later. Thanks!

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

I hope that almost all of LG’s face this issue while trying to add a new place on Maps. This is truly very annoying, and they should implement such resiliency in the app to retain all info when Maps app goes into the background.

Hi @Garg_Saab I very much agree with you. Good point. I might have found a temporary work-around: I place the cursor on/in an input field before jumping to an other app. Then I think it is more likely that you don’t loose content when you return to Maps. At least I have not encountered the problem since I started this practice. But it could be random. Any help in testing this work-around would be great. Cheers.

Hey @MortenCopenhagen

That’s really great. if that little thing works then it will do a world of good for other LG’s as well.

Hey @KatyaL I’m currently following all your steps suggested on “Fix an installed Android app that isn’t working?” Step1 1. Restarted my device 2. Updated all apps (Maps was already updated) Step2 3. Force stop the app 4. Clear the app’s cache 5. Clear the app’s data 6. Uninstall the app (I used Disable which told me it would revert to factory something. Then Enable the app again.) I did step 3-6 also. Without testing anything in between since testing is not easy. I’m a bit confused about whether to test editing a pin or while creating a new pin. Since I’m mostly aware of the problem while creating a new Pin that is what I will test. I will test and return with the results in the next message.
