Bug: Can't delete photos

I have mistakenly uploaded the same photos due to this bug I reported here:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Bug-Selecting-Photos-iOS-Version-6-24/m-p/3439104

@ErmesT Because of the bug I reported above, now I am trying to delete the duplicate photos I have uploaded, but they keep coming back after deleting, so they can not be deleted. This GIF shows the situation:

Version 6.24 bug (3).gifExplanation of the GIF:

There are 3 duplicate photos

I delete all three of them

Refresh the page

All three of the photos I have just deleted reappear

I have done this over and over and they keep coming back and can not be deleted

Hi @AkSakei

This a know issue that is not likely to be fixed. Google Maps is distributed over hundreds if not thousands of servers.

So when we delete a photo, only one server will know. It takes days for the news to spread to all the servers.

Several copies of a photo could also an artifact.

Don’t keep trying, just delete a photo once and wait a few days for the servers to synchronize.

Cheers

Morten

@MortenCopenhagen thank you so much for always giving us great advice and leading us to the right direction! I hope you can be the manager of those irresponsible official moderators and change the culture of the team!

@MortenCopenhagen I knew it but just wanted to share what happened…

@AkSakei @MortenCopenhagen

You need to give it a try via the PC or desktop mode in your cell.

It will work.

@ErmesT If you are the one who reported it as inappropriate content, I was talking about the official Google Moderator and not you.

Here is why I said what I said:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/UPDATED-Known-issue-RESOLVED-Unpublished-reviews-and-photos-on/m-p/3441115#M1279444

Please read the link above and reconsider if this comment I made below crossed the line:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Bug-Can-t-delete-photos/m-p/3439971#M1278837

Do you still think the use of “irresponsible” was inappropriate?

I think I will have to read and understand what you are talking about, @AkSakei , because you are writing a lot in the latest days, while I have been offline most of the time.

  1. I am reading the linked reply for the first time now. There are a lot of links in there, but I think that the biggest issue is a discrepancy between expectations and what has been done. Would I report this? Probably not
  2. I don’t know why you asked me if I “still” think, as I am coming on this conversation for the first time today, as it was not necessary for me to respond previously (the reply by @MortenCopenhagen was sufficient, in my opinion). But reading the conversation, yes, I think that the word “Irresponsible” ((of a person, attitude, or action) not showing a proper sense of responsibility. *Source: Oxford Languages) is not the right one. Again, what I think is that there is a discrepancy between expectations and what has been done. This is not due to Irresponsibility, but to a responsibility that is not the one you think a Google Moderator in Connect has. Google Maps is a big structure, with a huge amount of departments. What a Google Moderator of Connect do is to ask to another department to check the profile with issues. They will tell you that “everything that is not violating the rules will be released” and this is correct. We have several feedback about this happening, and it is not interest of Google to avoid doing this important job. Many people would like to know “what in a specific review is triggering the filter” but the reviews department of Google Maps will never, for obvious reasons, tell you what triggered the filter. By releasing the review they are already teaching the filter that the review was fine, and that’s all.

Sorry for the late and long reply

@ErmesT thank you for your detailed response. We have our own perspective and we can look at the same thing and have different thoughts and that is why I try to get ideas from other people and tried to get more people involved in the post I posted that was singlehandedly deleted by one of the official moderators. Here is a copy of what I wrote.

You can not see the original post, but I tagged around 30people including many Googlers and asked them to share their thoughts.

I do not think how I see things is correct or right and that is why I take this approach since this platform is called a “community”. I am very familiar with tech community because I have been a part of if for years, but this community is distinctively different and super slow, which I say because of the experience I have had with many other tech communities.

I understand that they can not give me answers that AI is responsible for because AI does things that humans can not explain and that is a beauty of it. However, the questions I have asked have never been around AI and they know the answer and they can answer if they want to. I have no problem if they do not answer to every single question because you do not expect them to respond if you see that. However, they see the same question/request like “please investigate my account” and they answer some, but not others. Thus, you do not know if your request is delivered just because they are treating people differently.

I agree that the expectation is the main thing here and I have suggested them how to fix it and gave them some solution ideas as well. You think it is not something you would report, but I think this should be reported because their actions does not seem to be aligned with Google’s core value, so I feel it is possible that these people are misrepresenting Google. That is why I want to ask Google team if they support these people’s actions and inactions.

How I feel is that they deleted my post because it was inconvenient to them. They could have shared their point of views in the comment as I suggested them to do in the deleted post and we could have discussed. I feel the freedom of speech and democracy is being threatened and I want to know if Google is supporting this.
