One of the most famous historical hotels in Europe, known for its architecture, that is similar to Quinta da Regaleira. Buçaco is a Coimbra’s twin of Sintra, surrounded by a forest and a garden, nearby the Palace.
The territory of the Buçaco palace was a part of a Carmelite convent (17 century), monks of which created a garden to represent the Earthly Paradise. The order left Buçaco in 1834.
The palace hotel was built between 1888 and 1907, designed in Neo Manueline style (Belem tower, Jerónimos Monastery are typical examples of a classic style).
