Bring Our Local Restaurants Home

Recently, due to the COVID-19 situation, most restaurants have been in difficulties running their business. We should stay at home to flatten the curve, but we also should support the local businesses which work really hard to serve the best food for us.

Here is a list of great restaurants we have tried to order their take-outs recently.

Utopia Bagels

Utopia Bagels is definitely one of the best bagel spots in Queens, NYC. There is a great variety of options among bagels, spreads and pastries on their menu. Their bagels are amazingly delicious with chewy texture, especially the French Toast bagel. The spreads were also tasty and my favorite was the Oreo and it matched with the French Toast bagel greatly.

KYURAMEN

The setup in the restaurant for pick up was well-organized and clean so we had a great experience there. We were also impressed by how they packed the noodles and broth separately to keep the noodles chewy. The food was over all delicious, especially the broth of Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen, creamy and flavourful. We also love the matcha pudding, sweet and addictive. The price for a combo (2 bowls of ramen, 1 side, 2 desserts and 2 drinks) was $50 with tax, reasonable with great portion.

El Rey Latino

We walked by El Rey Latino many times and we didn’t pay attention to them due to their humble exterior. Overall, their food was decent and our favorite was the 3 Leches Cake. It was super creamy, sweet but not greasy at all and will be the reason we order again or visit shortly.

Pollo Campero

We got a family set delivery from Pollo Campero via their website with time assignment and it was on time. The total price is $40 (+tax and tip), which includes a promotional family set ($30) of 16 pieces of fried chicken (only dark meat), 2 sides (we had plantain and corn salad) and an extra order dessert Caramel Flan. The food was decent, especially the fried chicken with thin crispy layer and corn salad. The fried chicken is braised before fried so it’s flavourful and juicy. The corn salad is made with cheese, pumpkin seeds and pepper, which is my favorite. It’s really delicious and special.

Zhang Liang spicy hotpot

Zhang Liang Spicy Hotpot is a famous chain brand originally from China but we didn’t have chance to try before. We did a take out order with 2 beef hot pot bowls and brown sugar bubble tea of Tiger Hills via phone. They packed the orders properly by separating the broth, ingredients and hot sauces. The broth was flavourful and the amount of ingredients was decent.

Hey @Wei929 ,

Not only everything looks delicious, but also very different from the other. I like the way you eat various cuisine. My favourite are the bagels, I just cannot stop myself when I see sweets. The Oreo bagel sounds like my favourite! Which spread did you like the most? Is the one on the right chocolate?

I am waiting to read your next post and the experience you had from the local restaurants. It is great that you are supporting them. I will check what I have near me although I try to eat home cooked meals as much as possible.

The spread on the right is Oreo cream cheese and it is my favorite one, sweet and creamy with chunky Oreo pieces! It is amazingly delicious with the French Toast Bagels :bagel:

Oh, I can’t resist the blueberry paste bagel. The purple color is so tempting. Everything looks good!

Hi @Wei929 ,

Thanks for replying back. Yes, this spread sounds like I would order three of those. Did I ask you about your favourite bagel? Is there a chocolate covered one?

@Velvel Dining is definitely one of the most important things everyday for a foodie

There are lots of famous bakery serving bagels with various & special flavors in Taiwan and the photos on IG or FB look so delicious and appetizing

@MoniDi My favorite is their signature French Toast Bagel which I never saw in other place for bagels in NYC before.
The texture is between chewy & puffy and the taste is really close to French toast flavored. It’s really difficult to describe how surprised I felt the first time I had. It’s definitely worth a try!

I couldn’t agree more @Wei929

As a fellow Foodie, although in a quarantine days, I’m still excited to try the food by using delivery service :yum:

Wow, I just knew that there’s bagel in Taiwan. When I was in Taiwan, I think I didn’t find it

But luckily, I could try bagel in California. Is there any recommended bagel stall in Taiwan?

Do your mean this place 好丘 ? @Wei929

I’ve tried bagel two times in two different places in California. I suggest you to come to the bagel specialist place. It is Posh Bagel . You could also find my review there. They have several branches, too. Both bagel that I tried was filled with salmon. How I wish someday could try the sweet flavor  Just like the blueberry that you tried.
