Bonn by Bike: safe and convenient 🚲

Hi @Marichams ,

I am very happy when I see such post! Thanks for it!

I visited Bonn 3 years ago and I was also impressed by this improvement as until this moment I haven’t seen such road sign. I think that’s very helpful for the people who are going by bike because it’s more safety and more and more people are doing that. This way nature would be not so polluted.

I am curious if you are living in Bonn? Do you like the city?

Hi @PoliMC ,

Thanks for your comment!

I was also surprised about how well structured it is and how much the drivers respect those signs, because one thing is for the city government to place them and the other one is for the people to make them really functional. I drove by bike myself and it did felt super safe, drivers had to stop to let me pass and even in the areas not marked with the signs and when it was noticeable that the drivers were on a rush, they respected my right and gave me my space.

In some commercial areas you can see many bilke parking stations, so I understand that indeed (and thankfully) the bike trend is growing.

While officially I did lived in Bonn, it ended up being just for a few weeks. I sadly was not able to enjoy as much of the city as I initially intended, but for what I saw, it was like a calmer sister from Cologne, hahahaha.

Thank you @Premsekar for your comment! While I appreciate your words, I’m just here the messenger of the wonders I run into, as they say sometimes you just have to search for the “extra” to turn the ordinary into extraordinary !

Hi @Marichams ,

That sounds really respectful and organized for everybody! I am very happy that there are such rules there and hope one day to happen in my country as well. I really love Germany and I like a lot their rules and I thing it should be example for the other countries as well.

I hope that to happen in my country too and I have a funny/sad story about it to share with you @PoliMC : turns out that the city council created a bicycle lane in Santo Domingo, my hometown and capital of the Dominican Republic. It was a very small one in the middle of one of the busiest streets in the city. The problem? it is mostly used by disrespectful motorcycle drivers AND since it is just a small distance, bikers would have to risk their lives to get in and out of there… Hence, it is not being used as planned :frowning:.

Hi @Marichams ,

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, I understand you, this sounds not very nice, unfortunately. In my country there are bicycle lanes but not everywhere and almost nobody respect the people with bicycles. It’s not like in Germany or in Holland. So I think our countries need time to begin to use those lanes and this type of driving.
