Boating on river Ganga around Farakka

I love sharing stay at different places during my personal or official visits, including place of stay, hotel or guest house.

However, my present place of posting is at Farakka, situated on the bank of famous Ganga river. After Farakka, river Ganga enters Bangladesh. Ganga river at Farakka is about 1.5 km wide, and famous for the fish Hilsa. Farakka is also famous for mango and Litchi fruits. There is wide scope for tourism like boating on river Ganga, in the evening, one can find birds are returning to their nests flying in groups, also can see dolphins, although rare now a days.

Farakka is well connected by road, national highway NH-34 and rail and about 6-8 hours (overnight) journey from/to Kolkata (Calcutta).

During summer seasons, one can see trees full of mangoes, Litchis and also Jack-fruits. This area is very fertile and has greenish splash all around. A few hotels of decent standards are also available. Farakka is situated in a wonderful place, Himalaya is only 300 KM towards North and Sea, Bay of Bengal about 400 KM towards South. Politically, Farakka is a few KM away from the international border of Bangladesh. Farakka is in the state of West Bengal, however, state like Bihar and Jharkhand are also at a distance of few KM.

About 20 KM from Farakka, on the bank of river Ganga, at Nimtita, there lies a old heritage almost abandoned old house reminding us British raj era structures with influence of Nawabi structures. The places around Farakka is having archaeological importance and do have many ancient ruins dated back to 700 AD.

Farakka is a very beautiful place and there is bright scope for tourism, and associated business and road/rail connectivity is also very good.

Boating on wide river Ganga at Farakka shall be a life-time experience!
