Blue Spring - revisited

As mentioned in my Waikato River Trail, we are COVID-19 free here in New Zealand (well, almost!) My summer visit post is here.

During the same road trip, we revisited The Blue Spring in Winter (Southern Hemisphere here is winter now)

With temperature dropped to -3 degrees, we can see frost and ice everywhere. It was a sunny day. It was still chill in the shadow.

Water was evaporated in the sunlight creating the steam which makes the spring even more mystic and majestic.

Lots of trees lost their leaves. The walkway is still green though.

I felt any word failed to describe the beauty of nature. Let the pictures do the talking then.

Wonderful post an great pictures @OliverKIWI the colours of the New Zealand nature are amazing. I have a special interest in nature and the flora of NZ is absolutely unique. I have been growing some NZ plants here (most are not hardy in our climate) but I tried also by getting them inside or give extra protection in winter.
The blue colour in the spring is so vivid is this also caused by minerals in the water?

It is an amazing place. To see is to believe :slightly_smiling_face: @helga19 So glad you like my pix! The water temperature of the Blue Spring is a constant 11 degrees celsius throughout the year. This is just fabulous - cold in summer and not so cold in winter LOL!

Water flows from the spring at a rate of 42 cubic metres per minute (9,240 gallons per minute). The water temperature of the Blue Spring is a constant 11 degrees celsius throughout the year. … Pure natural waters are blue to blue-green in colour because they lack light absorbing constituents and particles.

Interesting question! According to local tourism authorities, the above is the reason why the water is blue-ish:) @Erik_van_den_Ham

Good to see you have interests in NZ plants. There are a few native plants and they are all very popular here.

@Nyainurjanah Well,we have a small scale second wave at the moment and we were kept at home again for 2 weeks this time.

It is a magical place and seeing is believing:)

The temperature is actually 11 degrees - winter and summer are the same amazingly!

No drone - I think this is a piece of sacred land for the Maori tribes who are indigenous people of New Zealand. It has great cultural significance. That’s why I think drone has been banned here:)
