Astronauts who have been on space & had the opportunity to witness our great planet from up there have always described Earth as “The Blue Marble”. This name is given to our planet only because of the vast expanse of ocean that covers almost 2/3rds of earth’s surface (approx 71%). The extension of the oceans are rivers, sea, beaches, lakes , ponds etc. One such important landforms are the beaches. Beaches are the buffer zones between the ocean & the seafloor sediments.They provide us with great recreational purposes as a weekend getaway or camping or just getting the right tan by basking on the beach. But we often forget nature gives us everything in abundance & expects nothing in return. As a responsible citizen of the world I think it’s high time we address this topic of polluting our seas and oceans. These days people are aware of many things but forget small things like throwing the garbage in the dumpster rather than littering it around on the beach or the streets.We don’t even realize how our actions cause colossal damage to the marine life which in turn are making our waters turn black due to heavy pollution. Hence to do my bit towards our nature i have joined hands with the clean up drive arranged by a group named “BEACH WARRIORS”. Every week upto 6 beaches in Mumbai are cleaned & 200tonnes of garbage is removed on daily basis. I urge you all also to do your bit towards our nature in the smallest way possible which will help in rebuilding our planet, our home called EARTH (THE BLUE MARBLE) - beautiful as never before.
