Blooming Lotus at Rajshahi College Pond

Despite the intense summer heat, the pond at Rajshahi College has come alive with the blooming of white lotuses, creating a wonderful sight against the bright sunlight and the lush green leaves.

Located behind the college campus’s administrative building, the pond is full of floating lotus flowers in full bloom, a mix of white and pink colors. Some are fully open, spreading their beauty, while others are buds waiting to bloom.

Even though the campus is quiet during the holidays for Ramadan and Eid, local students and visitors of all ages are happy to visit this beautiful scene. They find peace and comfort sitting by the pond.

The transformation of this pond began when a former principal of Rajshahi College, Professor Habibur Rahman, brought 15 lotus plants from Tanore, Rajshahi, and planted them in the pond. Before this, red water lilies were introduced. Now, the pond is fully covered with water lilies and lotus flowers.

Botanists describe the lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera) as an aquatic plant that grows in muddy waters. It is known widely in rural Bangladesh. It typically grows in places with standing water, and its leaves and flowers can rise above the water’s surface.

The sight of the lotus flowers in the pond is truly breathtaking. It makes one feel as though one is standing in a rural setting. The beauty of these lotuses can uplift anyone’s spirits.

This post brings back great memories from when I was a student at Rajshahi College. I remember how the campus changed under our beloved ex-principal, Professor Habibur Rahman. Seeing the pond fill with beautiful lotuses was like watching nature come to life at our college.

It’s wonderful to know that these flowers still make people happy today. @S_Ali_Durjoy
