BLGC VI Abuja Suya Crawl(Recap)

Another successful time connecting with other Local Guides in my locality in the federal capital territory Abuja of Nigeria. I believe you have to agree with me, that we have suceeded in building the community further during this Suya crawl.

Now,I’ll endeavour to give a little background information or history about the word “Suya” It’s an “Hausa word” really. We have 3 main tribes in Nigeria and the hausa tribe is one of them. They are mainly from the North of Nigeria Although you can find Suya in most part of the country it is done by the Northerners (Hausas). Now,suya is made up of beef with different condiments. Condiments like, blended Peanuts, pepper chilli, other herbs, fat etc. It is roasted over coals or wood. Just think of barbecue and you’ll have even a closer idea of this. While sometimes they are sliced, other times, they are steaked. It’s often served alongside raw onions, cabbage or even tomatoes.

Note that it’s often served at evening hours and at night. It’s often an avenue to socialise with friends, colleagues and family. It’s served fire hot and sometimes spicy. Hence one of the reasons why The BLDG-VI-Abuja-Suya-Crawl-Physical-meet-up was held at night. It was mostly for local guides in Abuja to socialise and come together. Although there was lots of local guides talks and activities,we socialised alongside as well.

The first thing we did on arrival at the venue which was De Den Entertainment Center was to take photographs to be uploaded on to the maps. We made sure to do that before nightfalls. We also took lots of videos,we did questions and answers on the maps. We checked facts. After all that, we then settled down to the Item 7, The Suya.

One remarkable thing is that we had about 3 new local guides amongst us. We also had some other local guides who are attending a meet-up for the first time. According to the agenda,we had introduction of local guides on ground and on connect as well. You’ll notice on theIntroduce-Yourself-September-2022 some new local guides from The federal capital territory Abuja .

The next activity was our contributions to the maps. We all logged unto our Google Maps profiles and checked our contributions. I encouraged the local guides to get active on the maps, level up and also check the quality of their contributions. There was a scenario and I didn’t have a proper response for it. One of the local guides in attendance has a new job working in an establishment. Before he got the job,he had reviewed this POI. Now that he works there, should he deleted his reveiw or keep it? Everyone who reads the recap and wishes to comment is welcome to comment below and thank you in advance.

I wouldn’t wrap up this recap without mentioning that the suya was so tasty for the night, the interaction was cordial as seen in the photos. Special thanks to the Abuja local guides community I’ll tag a few of them here. @Sagir we missed you on both meet-up but please can I tag you. @Zinta Abuja local guides mama, @DigitalPope was my main man and co-host. @Silooobaba always on point for meet-up in Abuja. @leomdevs you were very active on both meet-up, @S4seun12 congratulations on your new level during the meet-up. @BUJ2 nice to have you @Kemi_e and others that I can’t tag.
