The Bithoor Museum is located near the main entrance of Nana Rao Peshwa Memorial Park. In the modern era, Google Maps etc. are reliable sources for guidance and information, similarly museums make tourists aware of the reality and these museums should not be neglected in the society because they are the authentic source.
The museum was established in the year 2005 in the Nanarao Peshwa Memorial dedicated to the brave fighters of the First War of Independence. As a historical and rare document of the partition of India-Pakistan in the year 1947, the photo of that moment has been displayed for the visitors on the display of the Arms Gallery. In this series, a rare portrait or picture of Maharani Lakshmibai, which was clicked by English photographer Hoffman, has also been displayed. Ancient and medieval coins, notes ranging from one rupee to thousand issued in the country are also present here, which tell the story of India’s prosperity. British swords, letters of Babar period, dagger of Tatya Tope are also displayed. The history of the revolution of 1857, the release decree of Tatya Tope’s family on 28 February 1858 is also present here. Photographs of the main temples of Bithoor, excerpts from Harijan and Pratap newspapers and information about the postal service started by Lala Thanthimal are also available here. Rare postage stamps issued on Mahatma Gandhi and royal orders issued during the British rule are also kept in the museum. Sculptures as of Ganesha etc, Nana Saheb’s statue, various antiques gifted to the museum by the antique collectors like musical instruments, electrical fans, weights, sewing machine, stove, lamp, etc are also displayed. Maulana Hasrat Mohani Gallery and Vidhyarthi Shanker Gallery are small but provides valuable knowledge. Here manuscripts of Jyotish Shastra Granth and Bhaktambar Shastra are also displayed.
I am lucky to visit this museum and I could see the rare pictures, artefacts, Bithoor’s information, information about the sacrifice of the heroes of the first war of independence etc.
