Birmingham Foodie Meet-up

Birmingham Foodie Meet-up

Krispy Kreme Birmingham New St Station

Unit 39 Birmingham New Street Station, Birmingham B2 4QA, UK

September 14, 2019 @ 11:00 (BST)

Calling all Foodies! Come hungry to this Meet-up!

11am meeting point: Krispy Kreme Donuts inside the Birmingham New Street Station. (located next to Starbucks and close to the toilets)

We will stick around for about 30-minutes for intros. Feel free to arrive early, grab a table tasty treat!

11:30am: Walking tour towards our destination of Brindley Place Food Festival. Everyone gets to put in a request along our route towards the festival. As we pop into each place, the local guide who chose it can share why they chose it and show us around, maybe grab a snack, etc.

Also a good opportunity to add some facts to Google Maps for store hour updates, location, photos, videos, etc. Great way to find out more about local favourites or those who want to try something new too!

1pm: arrive to the Brindley Place Food Festival - this year the theme is Chilli. It is located near the Canal, SeaLife centre and ICC. (website below) Here we will all walk around, and try some new foods. Feel free to share some of your food with others, but no obligation. If you get 2 kebabs in one purchase, maybe see if someone wants to go half on the cost and give them the other stick. This way our money will go farther in trying more different types of cuisine.

3pm (depending on the weather, food selection, etc) Everyone can go their own way. This time is not set in stone!

Hi @TheRealKristin ,

Thank you for organizing your first meet-up, this sounds like a great event, especially to a foodie like me. I hope many Local Guides can come with you and enjoy the food festival.

Have fun, treat yourselves well and please donā€™t forget to tell us how did your meet-up go. Here you can find some tips on How to write a great recap after your meet-up. Good luck!

Hi @RadieN

Thank you kindly for your message!

It is actually my second meet-up (the first time no one showed up) but this one will be successful as some UK locals coordinated in advance here on the connect website. LOL

Looking forward to fun times!!!
Happy for anyone to join us!

Will be there as well. Am so excited about this. Little did I know posting about a meet-up will materialise into reality.

@TheRealKristin @Sandychelle hoping to meet you soon. As well as other attendees.

This looks ace @TheRealKristin !! And Iā€™m so glad that youā€™ve met local Local Guides here on Connect and coordinated a meetup together! That is definitely the best way for organising meetups as you can ask around first to find a common free date for the event! In the Manchester community, we use Hangouts/WhatsApp to keep in touch with each other and discuss upcoming events; whose turn to organise, when is the best date and ideas for events. Slowly but surely, I hope that you, @proudlywoman , @Sandychelle and @Dave26 will build a strong community in Birmingham. Weā€™re not too far away so perhaps we can do a joint meetup! Oh, and unfortunately, Iā€™m busy that weekend so I wonā€™t be able to join in.

Itā€™s a bit short notice, but Manchester Local Guides are getting a visit from two London Local Guides ( @IrenaS and Fazz) from the 7-10 Sept and weā€™re in the process of setting up meetups for the 7th in Manchester (hosted by myself), 8th in Stockport (hosted by @deadmanjones ) and the 9th in Clitheroe (hosted by @PeteMHW ).

Thereā€™s a bit of history here:

@IrenaS and I met at the Local Guides Summit 2017. @deadmanjones went to Local Guides Connect 2018 and through the alumni channel, got to know each other. So when @deadmanjones and @ZoeOooe went down to London recently for a visit, they both met @IrenaS and Fazz who showed them around. And @PeteMHW, @IrenaS, Fazz and myself have been to Ghent to join in on an international meetup. So now @IrenaS and Fazz are paying us a visit! So given enough time and resource, weā€™re not too averse to a little bit of travelling!

Anyway, do tag me in future events or if you want to join the UK wide Hangouts chat group, let me know.

@AdrianLunsong sounds like youā€™ve got a great community going there! Itā€™s a shame Iā€™m not available around those dates as itā€™d be great to meet up with other Google Guides, but Iā€™m really looking forward to the one in Brum in a couple of weeks.

I love the idea of the international meet up too! I have a place near Lisbon, in Portugal, so Iā€™ve been looking at whatā€™s going on over there to see if I can help build my network of friends, as I only really know my husbandā€™s family and friends over there. Who knows, I may even be able to organise my own international meet up over there, as weā€™re planning on moving next year.

Hi @AdrianLunsong

Thanks for the full story! So awesome!

I just moved house this last weekend, so weā€™ll still be unpacking this next weekend (big house lol) and as itā€™s a bit short notice, I wonā€™t be able to attend any of those dates you mentioned near Manchesterā€¦ :frowning:

But do keep us in the loop for any more meetups for sure, as Iā€™m very interested to attend!

Weā€™ll be sure to let you know how our Birmingham meet up goes for sure! Lol. Take care and hope to see you soon either way

@Sandychelle @TheRealKristin @proudlywoman Encourage all participants to bring a friend! Meetups donā€™t have to be strictly for Local Guides! In fact, thatā€™s the best way to promote the program to folks who have never heard of Local Guides! I strong-armed quite a few of my friends to my meetups and now they are regulars! Lol!

Oh, and donā€™t forget to take lots of photos (group selfies!) for your recap post! Iā€™m super excited for your meetup!
