Bird of paradise plants (Genus Name Strelitzia) are a flamboyant, colorful and exotic looking plant that not only take the shape of birds but also have striking bird-like orange, white and yellow flowers. They not only look like tropical birds, but rather than being pollinated by insects, they rely on birds for pollination! Have you seen these birds of paradise?
Wow cool looking flowers! I don’t think I’ve actually seen them in person anywhere. What are they called? Are they just growing around like that? They’re really beautiful.
I love all kinds of plants so whenever I see something different I get it. Where was this taken?
Yes they are stunning and you have to look twice when you see them because they really do look like colorful birds. They are called Bird of Paradise however their Genus Name is Strelitzia and are a native to South Africa. As Strelitzia prefer warm temperatures they are in abundance in Australia and I have seen many over the years and saw the ones in my photo while on a walk in Melbourne, Australia. Yes, amazingly so, they just grow around like shown in the photo!! I too love all kinds of plants and always visit gardens, especially botanical gardens, whenever I visit a new city. I hope to soon post some photos of some amazing plants I saw in Lystigarðurinn, the Botanical Garden in Akureyri, Iceland, I just know you will also love them!
